Does anyone know the history behind Williamson Island on lake Insula? I was wondering, but could not find anything about it online.
Just wondering
Mike

Someone said there could have been a camp resort on the island. There used to of been an old dock on the island and a rock with the the name on it. Any more thoughts?

The rock is still there.

As of 2 weeks ago the rock is still in the grass area right behind the fire area. It's hard but intriguing to think there could have been a resort on the island, its not very big at all.

Yes I know, but to me anyways, it looks very old. Does anyone have any thoughts?

How do you carve a name into a rock like that? (NO, I don't plan to try it myself, just curious.)

To BWPaddler; borrow your buddies knife and get a rock hammer. FRED

As a Williamson, please don't trespass on my island. Thanks.

Ouch! Think it would feel like nails on a chalk board to me.

Looks like a Viking runestone from Lief Erickson's day. The Erickson's and Williamson's roamed Minnesota back before Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Left the Kensington runestone a little further west. ;)
