Going down to 46 degrees tonight in the Chicago area tonight. Fired up the wood stove tonight for the first time, mostly due the fact that I'm still wearing shorts. Smells good, feels good. Life is good!

Just turned the gas fireplace on an hour ago. It's not as cozy as wood, but it warms us just the same! Marc I'm going into the dub on Sunday and will be wearing the Longies!

Nice! Nothing like a wood stove!

Oh man - I should start a fire too!

46 is called great sleeping.

I'd fire up mine, but it would be way to hot. I'll save my firewood for when its a bit cooler... like in the low 20's.

I agree. It was great sleeping weather last night with the windows open and a chill in the air.

For those that burn wood, what stove do you use? Mine is Vermont Casting Resolute Acclaim from around 1992. Non catalytic. Thanks.

Lit mine up tonight too. Our first frost last night. Maybe again tonight. It's not that cold in the house so I just brought in a small load of scraps from the shop to keep it from getting too chilly in the house tonight.

Burning in an Englander 17-VL; the only heat source I use unless I leave town for multiple days in winter.

While I love a wood stove fire, it''s great sleeping weather now. Maybe now I'll actually keep the blanket on all night. it's too early regardless of the weather- we never turn the furnace on until October, no matter how much the kids complained.

I'm cleaning my chimney tomorrow in anticipation. Mine is a Scandia from around 1980.

Amen to that except for we had our window fan blowing at full steam ahead and the overnight low for us was 42° . By 330 in the morning I thought that I was going to die of hypothermia!

Earth Stove upstairs--

and a Menards "Jacuzzi" Special downstairs---

still have to clean the pipes and a fresh coat of stove paint-- but that has not stopped me before from just starting a small fire to "take the chill out"--- love the time of year!!!

Lit my wood pellet stove last night. Set on the lowest heat setting it took the edge off the chilly night. I don't run it during the day till December.

Went for my morning bike ride today. There was quite a chill in the air and a few miles down the trail I caught the scent of a wood fire. Just the smell made me feel a bit warmer inside. Best time of year right now.

Had our first fire in the stove last night. One year to the day for the first fire last year. Feels so good! Won't turn the furnace on until late November.

I have a Woodland, non-catalytic model year 1978. Weighs 300+ lb. I have moved and installed it in three houses. Smartest buy I ever made.

Ranks right up there with my 42 lb Wenonah Wilderness.

No fires yet, The temps outside are still in the 70s and low 80s. Will probably start having fires in November. Woodstock Soapstone with catalytic. This heats the house. Once in a while we use the Superior stove in the kitchen.

Mission accomplished. Chimney and stove pipe cleaned. I noticed I hadn't cleaned the ashes out from last spring, so I have to do that before I have a good fire. Wood is messy business, but you can't top it.
