This may be a really stupid questions but I ask it in all seriousness. I got a lifestraw as a gift. If i were get a quart bottle, fill it with water from the BWCA, then add some dry mix (gatorade, kool aid, etc) would that mess up the filter. I'm sure the filter would get discolored ... but would it affect the filter from working properly.

Yes most anything extra well cause the filters to clog up faster.

Just like Tannins in the water, the dyes and sugars in those drink mixes would effect the filter.

Yes. Especially the sugars. Even artificial sweeteners often use some form of sugar and the sugar will quickly foul the filter.

always fill sterilize and then add your flavoring no madder what method your using.
