I did the Manistee River. It's a great little river. they sy in the article the river is wide, but I found it to be wide like the Namekagon river up in WI although it is a lot faster then the Namekagon. the Namekagon is around 4 MPH and the Manistee is around 5-6 MPH. It's got lots of turns to it. Lots of great campsites.

If you come to God's country, do the Buffalo if it's your only trip.

God's country is Arkansas by the way. He gave it a bad reputation so that most people would stay away and let us enjoy it in peace!

Eleven Point a few times a year, since it's only about 1.5 hrs away. When we went to Glacier NP we did a bit of the Flathead, BEAUTIFUL place. I have to agree about the Buffalo, though, it is the most unspoiled, beautiful river I've been on.

BTW, I noticed the Eleven Point seemed to imply that you were compelled to stay at one of the 8 different "Float camps." There are only a couple I will use as most are in little "Slough-like" areas and are the worst places on the river for bugs and snakes. Better to find a gravel bar.

Since I already know and have paddled it four times.. I agree.. But the hordes already know..

But the Green way surpasses the Buff for stunning scenery

Bad reputation? My all time best remembered bumper sticker said
"If You Can Read This You're Probably Not From Arkansas". Fished the White and Norfork Rivers way back in '82. Watched float fishermen with a .22 shoot at anything that moved, muskrats, a heron, squirrels. It was spring. Turned a couple in to the Game Warden that were culling dead trout from a stringer on the White just to keep them fresh. I realize it's not a representative sampling, but I never went back. The Green sounds nice.

The above post from a Guest Paddler was by me--seems to be a spam filter in use, I did not do it right. I am not into anonymous posting, stand by what I wrote.

Nuts, the link leads to Page Not Found on the NationalForest.org website. The article must be removed already?

Wow, that second picture is spectacular. Is that the Flathead? How many miles are paddleable by canoe?
