Several of us are meeting for breakfast at the Vadnais Heights Perkins (on 35E) on Sunday at 7:30 AM. Spartan1 and I will be heading north with our granddaughter that morning, so we don't have a lot of time to spend, but some of the friends from the Women's Forum are meeting us there. If you are an early riser and would like to join us, come look for us there!

That is less than 10 miles from my house. Is it this coming Sunday?

Yes, the 17th. I think we will have Twins87, Luft, SerenitySeeker, and GrandmaL with us. Join us if you can.

Me too! I'll try to wear a flying moose t shirt so that those who don't know us can find us. Looks like we will be a group of about 8 or so. Always nice to meet new faces from the site. If anyone else thinks they can make it, let us know so we can get a large enough table.

We will be wearing flying moose t-shirts, too. Not Anna, though. She isn't a t-shirt person. :-)

Awwww. I sooooo wish I could join you! However, that's probably about a 3 hour drive away for me, and not on my way to the BW. I will be in Ely on the 24th and I'll try to remember to wear my flying moose t-shirt. So, if you're in Ely on that day and see a short blond with the flying moose shirt, please say hi.

We'll just miss you. If we do go to Ely, it will be on the 23rd, and we will be headed home on the 24th. Sorry, too. Would have loved to meet you, Goldenbadger.

Bummer! We will be in Ely the afternoon/ evening of the 23rd as well. We stay at CBO and will probably hit a local pub/restaurant that evening.

I also will be stalking Ely with a group of 6 others from Ohio. If you see a flying moose t-shirt attached to a somewhat out of shape guy with blonde hair....be sure to say HI!

P.S. This trip has been 2 years in the making!!!

We had a very fun and congenial group this morning at Perkins at 7:30.

Luft, GrandmaL, Inspector13, Zulu, Twins87, Spartan1, Spartan2, and Anna. Enjoyed our breakfast and lots of conversation. There was a photo but I won't be able to post mine until I get back home; perhaps Zulu will post his later on.

We are on the road now on our way to the North Shore, Grand Marais and the Gunflint.

It was great to have breakfast with The Spartans and their Granddaughter, Twins87, Inspector13, Luft and GrammaL this morning. It was nice hearing about everyones BWCA trips and anticipation of the upcoming ones.

The Spartan's Granddaughter Anna is one of the brightest young ladies I have ever met!

Thanks for a fun morning.

Maybe the group photo from Spartan2's camera turned out a little better than mine. I (standing far left) look like I'm trying to imitate a rat. :)

I think perhaps the photo from my camera is a bit sharper, actually.
Back Row: Zulu, Spartan2, Anna, Spartan1, Inspector13
Front Row: Luft, GrandmaL, Twins87.

We had fun meeting with the BWCA.com group, although Anna would probably rather have been swimming. Still, I think French Silk pie and sausage for breakfast didn't make her feel too deprived. :-)

Our week at Clearwater Lodge in Cabin8 was fun. Lots of relaxing, a great deal of good eating, some canoeing, some fishing with our friend Marti Marchino, some reading, and a bunch of board games. Not nearly as much swimming as anticipated, since we didn't see the sunshine during the entire week and it was cool, breezy and overcast when it wasn't drizzly, misty, or actually raining.

But we still had a good time. To top it off, we came home through Eau Claire and hunted up Pat and Donna Surface at their booth at the Festival in the Pines. Pat sang a couple of songs just for Anna, we bought the new CD, and they posed for a picture with her. We were disappointed to learn that Pat will no longer be doing the Tuesday concerts on the Front Porch in Ely during the summers. That has been a tradition for us for quite a few years now. We enjoy his music.

Anna is also a great Jerry Vandiver fan. We played his CD's in the car, and she can sing almost all of his songs by memory now. She is pumped at the prospect of accompanying us to Canoecopia next year.

It bothered me to leave the canoe country without a canoe trip, but I think I am adjusting to it as time goes on. I have four decades of wonderful canoe trip memories, and staying in a cabin on the edge of the BWCA isn't all bad. Just next year I hope to pick a week when there might be a bit of sunshine and a blue lake at least one day.
