So my wife and I were paddling last night and enjoying our evening when we began to discuss how it was too bad the paddle nights were so far away for us. Then we thought, perhaps there's a few other folks around our area that would enjoy a local paddle night. So we thought we'd try to get it started. We're thinking Thursday nights from 6:30-dusk. We were paddling around Wausau's Oak Island and it's a nice park with a boat landing so we thought may as well start there.

We are not expert paddlers so we're not teaching anything. Just setting up a time for people who like to paddle to get together. We'll set two nights and see what happens.

This Thursday, June 5th 6:30PM

Thursday, June 19th 6:30PM

Oak Island Park

Boat Landing

If you think you might paddle let us know. Perhaps we'll fire up a grill there and cook up some brats.

Tim, I think I might be able to make it. I have baseball games on Tues, Wed, and possibly Friday. I've got to get in paddling shape for our June 14 trip. There is a kayak group that meets at some landing near Wausau every Wed. night.

Jeff,

That would be great. I don't think we'll have a huge group but I also put it on Facebook and there is some interest there. We're going to bring our old wood canvas and some kayaks. Should be a fun evening.

You're killin' me! Gosh I loved living in Wausau (Schofield) and I would leave everything we have except wife and dogs to move back north! The folks in Wausau were so friendly and places to paddle all around. We spent a lot of evenings there. When I go up to the BWCAW I usually take the long way around so we can go through Wausau and get an Angelo's pizza and maybe go up Rib Mountain. SURE WISH I COULD PADDLE WITH YOU ON THURSDAYS! If you do it throughout the summer, maybe we CAN once anyway?

Sure we could. We could even paddle on a day other than Thursday. If I were you though, and on my way to the BWCA, I'd make it a short paddle on Lake Wausau 'cause it just doesn't compare to the Boundary Waters even a little.

Weather looks great for tomorrow night. We're planning on getting there early and firing up the park grill next to the picnic table for some brats. Might be just Knoozer and us, or maybe just us. But even if it is, it'll still be a great night for a paddle.

I got a couple of father/son newbies who will be going on our trip meeting us at the landing. They may be bringing some other family members so I'm bringing at least two knooz and 3 yaks.

Hey that would be great. It ended up being Knoozer & us. Had a visit from a long-lost buddy from my ol' Cub Scout Den though. He'd seen the post and, though he didn't have time to paddle, stopped in quick to say hi. So it was a worthwhile and pleasant evening on the water.
