19 mile canoe race tomorrow with a 9:14am start time, and elbow surgery on Monday with a 1pm start time. I think I am addicted to canoeing. They said to not take "Aleve" for a few days before surgery. I am going to pre medicate with the Aleve and worry about the after affect later.

My wife Karen aka(1happycamper) & my daughter(paddlegal) will be defending their first place title for the 3rd year in a row in the women's division.

Where's the race? What division do you paddle in?

Good luck,

Alan

Big race. Thought about going out to it this year but decided against. A bit out of shape this spring. What are you paddling?

I'm all for being crazy at times. But I think the risk with Naproxen and surgery is that the Naproxen can increase the risk of bleeding. This is actually why Tylenol is the pain killer of choice in hospitals. It is the one that does not increase the risk of bleeding. Of course, the tylenol ads make it sound like it is because it works better.

Have fun and good luck with the surgery.

Oh, and the answer is a resounding yes, but you have a lot of company here.

I would follow my doctor's advice about the Aleve. NSAIDs are a source of extra bleeding and can complicate surgery. I would say that ignoring that advice is, indeed, crazy. And a bit foolhardy.

Otherwise,have a good race!

+1 on this Dave. I really don't think you want to complicate your surgery. Otherwise good luck to You, Karen and your Daughter in the races. Also good luck with your surgery. Hope all goes well with it.

Dave,
How did you and the family come out on the races? Did your shoulder hold up or are you in pain today?

Canoe42's surgery went really well- they did it orthoscopically so only one stitch to close it up! We'll have to see how the arm holds up on the BWCA trip come August...

My mom (1happycamper) and I ended up winning for the third time as a team in the Women's Cruiser class. 18.5 miles in 2hr 56 mins...much faster than our previous winning times as the water was running very fast. Canoe42 and my sister did really well coming in only 16 minutes behind us, but didn't podium.

Glad to hear he is doing well after the surgery. Tell him to take it easy and be sure to stay faithful to the PT to get back in shape for the BW trip.

Falling to peer pressure, I only took Tylenol. Worked we'll, and the beer after the race helped also. Here is a picture of the Women's division champs.

And here is the whole crew.

Great to get good news about the surgery, and glad that you weren't too crazy!

Congratulations to all!
