The current slush conditions vary from lake to lake.
We have a very cold spell coming through the next five or six days, with lows from -20 to -35 expected, and not much better on the "warmer" days.
I'd check the long range forecast before coming up, so you can make sure that you have sufficient gear to handle the extremely cold weather.

Thanks for the update. I am hoping we do not encounter to much slush.
We actually prefer the colder temperatures. It is easier to stay dry (and thus warm). I've been up when it was raining and 40 degree's before (followed by a night of minus 20). The extreme wet followed by the sudden drop in temp is dangerous (or just being wet can be dangerous).
I actually bought a hot tent right after that trip (to dry things out). This year we are going in cold for a change of pace though. Thanks!

Pretty much slushie! I was out and about on unnamed lakes,
bring waders! Not the happiest of times to walk, it sucks you in!
Fishing was pretty good, but in Ely it warmed up to a puddle of
can I say dog-poop! Unreal it was -0 for weeks and now worse, did not
help the situations. Wet! I would not recommend driving! Unless you
got a Golden Triple AAA policy!

quote George: "Doing my annual winter trip January 3rd. Has anybody been on any of the Lakes up by Ely (i.e. Snowbank, Moose, Numbered Lakes)? How much slush is on the lakes right now? Thanks!
"
George-
You recently contributed to a post I started about quinzhees with some great and thoroughly-supplied information about the "ice-box" and igloo construction. I think I could become a fanatic about igloos as well. Thanks so much; I was delighted to see the photos of the igloos you constructed as well as the photo of another you obviously built posted above. Best of luck on your early January outing!
