In the Q the last number of days. Twice I awoke to the honking of geese at first light. Both time I got up and saw flocks of geese high in the sky headed south in their V formation.
On my way out of Basswood this am I saw 11 loons flocked together on Bayley Bay, a sure sign fall is arriving.

I was thinking you were heading down here too :(

Hope those geese are just trying to get an early seat in the winterland swamps...

Down here squirrels are making new nests. I wonder if that's a sign of something (other than a sign of a squirrel making a nest...haha)

Gulls are congregating on top of a local hotel's roof as they do every fall....1st summer Franklin's Gulls were flying low over a grassy field eating insects in mid air...there must have been a couple hundred of them.

Don't know where you live in MN but I in Norfolk, NE on Wednesday and saw a smaller flock of 20-25 heading south and was thinking the same thing. Was at my moms house on the IA-MN boarder this past Sunday and the acorns on the ground were terrible. Hope they are not adding to something ahead for us.

I live on the MN/Canada border... it's just too early!! maybe they were just practicing maneuvers cuz they were having a hard time getting into a V, looked like a W and then a B sometimes....

If Canada wants to claim the geese that stay here year-round, there won't be any resistance. I don't know what's wrong with them. When I was a kid it was a major event to see geese. Now all you have to do is reserve a tee time.

Just got back from WCPP and saw a lot of the same... Thought it was strange too the fact that they didn't form much of a V.

Winter is not far away, when we see those Honkers flying south. We to have had them over our house, Mocha.
Hummingbirds have also gone. Those little birds were in a feeding frenzy last week,to get their strength up for flying south,to South America.
Nature is truly amazing to me.
