I can't remember whose bit it was, but the question was how big of a wild animal are you confident you could beat in a fight to the death. I think the breaking point was a beaver or a raccoon for the guy. I was not completely confident then, and am less confident now that I could emerge victorious from such a battle. I'd give myself an 80% likelihood of a win, but I'd just as soon avoid the test.

I don't know how one would kill a beaver by hand. They're so solid.

I've heard of the same outcome with bison. But they're huge, and not rodents. Well, I suppose rodents have killed more people over the course of history than any deer relations - counting the black plague, that is.

I may have to change my handle to Porpoisejack, or Bunnyjack.

Well, for someone like me who chooses more fishing lures over an axe, I could use a fishing lure because I did hook a beaver once with a lure. It was a barbless jig and I cut the line right away. I sure hope it worked its way out.

However, a friend once hooked one with a much bigger lure. We were musky fishing at Lake of the Woods and she had seen a huge fish. Her biggest is 53.5 inches, so she knows big fish and she said that this was much bigger. Well, she went to the spot where she saw the behemoth, hooked up, and it started pulling her boat. That's when she knew it wasn't the Kraken of muskies for no musky, not even a 60-incher, could pull her big boat.

However the deal is done, I did read the Vatican ruled that beavers are fish, permitting the French fur trappers to eat them on Friday, so if you kill a beaver, even on Friday, fry it up like walleye.
