and counting. I am so excited to make my way back to the Quetico. I experienced my first BWCA trip in June of this year, and am fortunate that I get to go back up so soon. I am new to the BWCA family, but I am certainly a lifer! I grew up camping and paddling and have made it a life's passion and career. Thanks for all of the posts and stories. They provide hours of entertainment and fuel the fire in my heart for the Boundary Waters.
To each his own!

7 days to go for my brother and I. I am excited for both of you. I can still remember the excitement from my first trip about 15 years ago. The neat thing is I still get that excited before each one.
Paddleaway,
October tripping is great. I think its the best time to go. I have had trips in the fall where I did not see a single other person the whole time. No bugs. Cooler weather. Fall colors. I hope you have great wether to really be able to enjoy this wonderful time of year.
Please remember 1 thing though...If you capsize the water will be extremly cold, so be more cautious than you might normally be.

PortageMonkey, we go almost every year in May, so I'm well aware of the water temp issue. Actually, I'm going to insist on my canoe this year (& therefore me steering) - my regular BWCA compatriot is a straight-down-the-middle kind of guy no matter the weather, water temp, tornadic activity, or anything else. If the shore is visible on the horizon it's close enough for him...
I'm just hoping the fish are in a cooperative mood, I'd like to catch something big & toothy for fun & something small & toothy for a dinner or two!

If you want to catch real big and toothy, fish in late October on the reefs when the tulibees and whitefish are spawning.

Six days and counting!! Taking the two guys who took me canoeing for the first time 30 years ago. One was my scoutmaster and the other a local farmer who helped out with the scouts. Neither one has been in the BWCA before so I am sure they will have a great time. Hope everyone has great fall trips this month! Campfires will be a plus!
