OK, so I have less then a day left, but the wait has been killing me. Our group is headed up to Ely tomorrow morning. We hope to be on the water by 8 AM (Lake 1) We have a relatively easy day to Fire Lake. Then on to Insula the next day. We plan on day tripping and spending another night on Insula. Back out towards the entry point, camping on Lake 2/3. Then we're out on Monday.

What do you do to pass the months/weeks/hours/days before your trip? This is generally what I do.

Months: Plan the general route, with tripping partners. Get reservations, call/email outfitter and reserve needed items. Gear plan.

Weeks: Meal Plan, shop, make some food and freeze.

Days: Make more food (I eat well...), pack.

Hours: Pack, not sleep (But not because I'm not trying)....

Pretty much the same as you. These 8 hrs at work are going to kill me. I've been exchanging emails with the crew, going over last minute details. We leave tomorrow morning as well. We'll spend the night in Ely and then head up the Moose River Friday morning. This is probably the earliest that I've had my gear all ready to go. I'll finish the personal items tonight and then try to sleep.

I'm headed up tonight. I've spent the day getting my final items ready and will pack it up this evening. I knew where I was going a while back so I prepped and planned last month. I started putting really important stuff I could forget in the car on Monday. Like paddles. :)

As soon as I get home I'm packing for the next trip. You never know, it might be tomorrow or next week. Things look a little bleak as my dad had back surgery. But if he's in the hospital to long, I may do another short trip and then be ready to take care of him when he returns up north here.

Pretty much the same but as nctry stated, I also start as soon as I get back from the current trip. Also, this winter, we are going to be doing a lot of dehydrating for next years trips. Should be three if plans all work out.
I would have to throw in "Make multiple trips to REI, Cabela's, Gandor and others and shop the web for more crap I don't need. lol
Actually, always looking for ways to lighten the load and whittle down the amount of items brought with.
Review any books and magazines I have for anything that may come in handy that I have forgotten.
Oh, also throw in all the other normal crazy life stuff that is going on.

Sorry to hear about your tooth, Jan. Where are you headed on your trip? Put in on the 7th?

Going in #30 on 9/9 with intent to Fire Lake then Insula. Please post your trip report.
I spend lots of time on this forum rethinking my gear, my food, my route. Then I got to the sports stores in my area and dream about gear then look at the budget and buy something. I take it home and play with it then figure what to remove to make room for the new toy. Each year I upgrade equipment. The first trip was Army sleeping bags and other heavy stuff. I was stronger then. I hope smarter now.

We ended up making a decision to push on to Insula the first day, so we were able to spend some more time there. Then we went back through Fire on our way back out.
