I have a permit to enter Quetico PP through Nym Lake in early August. All of the people who usually go with me can't go this year. I am thinking about taking my kayak and doing my first solo, but I decided to post here and see if there is anyone compatable who might want to join me.

I will be leaving Chicago a day or two before and plan to spend 6 or 7 nights in country. I have a kevlar canoe and all my own equipment. I have a lot of experience in the BWCA and Quetico, but prefer the isolation of Quetico. This is the first time for me entering from the North. In the past I have always gone through Prarie Portage. Note that you need a passport to cross the border.

There are probably a dozen routes that will work for me. I prefer to make final decisions on the fly. After all, being there is the experience, not how many lakes you cross. I like to move most days, but usually take it easy at the portages. I am 53 and in good shape. A perfect day to me is to stop around two or three o'clock, set up camp, tap the bourban, light up a cigar, and contemplate.

I started fishing only a few years ago. I am not that good at it, so if you are good at fishing, I could use some instruction. I got some personal advice from Kevin Callan at Canoecopia that I am looking forward to trying out.

Mitch

Mitch-

I had the same thing happen to me last year. Everyone bailed and I contemplated my choices. I ended up doing my first solo. It was a blast and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Hopefully you find someone that can go with you, but if not think about taking on the trip solo. Might be just the new kinda experience you are looking for.

Best of luck!

I would contact Jordans outfitters. He ran an outfitting,or lodge business out of Nym lake years ago. He may be able to hook you up with some partners. Worth a try for the sake of a phone call!
