OK, it's time... my year-long Souris River refinishing project ENDS this weekend!

I had scraped off the old decals as part of the process... so now - how do the new ones go on? Right away on the sanded down boat? after a coat of epoxy?

Gonna go get things set up and make sure I have everything, then give it one more sanding I think and I'll be ready to start putting it back together. Will check back here before it's too late. Guessing I'll need to go to the hardware store for at least one thing...

If it were my canoe, and I do mean wish, I would put them on when you are done refinishing the canoe. The reason why is you want the canoe to get the finish not the decal. Also if you get another updated BWCA.Com decal you could just peel off and reapply the new decal.

To clarify, was meaning the SOURIS RIVER decals... yeah BWCA.com will go on top. The brand name ones though I want to permanently seal on there (I think). But good point about the canoe getting the epoxy - maybe I sandwich the SR decals between coats?

Ok I still think that any decal should be on top of the finish, but it is based on nothing but my opinion. Why do you think the decal needs a finish if could ask?

BWP I put new decals on my canoe 2 years ago AFTER I finished, refinishing the canoe. No need to sandwich between layers. If the decal should fade all you need do is get another remove the old one and replace. OR you can tell me to shut the hell up and do what you want to, it is your canoe.

Okay it's time. I've got the skid plates coated with nice black epoxy. They are still curing but I have the gunwales taped. I thought I wanted a finish over the decals because my last ones curled up a bit. Funny joe! I Like my decals thanks.

By the way joe I revived your tent today with 3 cans of silicone spray. And I dried out the tent we found at a portage last weekend and got it packed up and put away in case we find its owner. Busy day! But I still have two canoes on top of the car; so there is still more work to do. It never ends.
