A little off topic but I figured I would ask anyway...

My family and in laws are looking for a mn or wi cabin to rent for a long weekend. I am looking for any advice from those that have rented cabins in the past and possibly have some suggestions. We will most likely bring a boat and will have young children along also who will want to swim. We live in the twin cities and would be willing to venture to northern mn or even wi.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I like Lake Vermilion. It is wilderness with cabins. Spring Bay resort is on the west side. Great resort, and even greater owner. He should run a clinic on how to run a resort. He has cabins and owns a bunch of houses on the lake that he rents out.

Fishing is great as well. Biggest musky I have ever seen hit my buddy's bomber lure that would have caught a crappie it was so small.

If not there, then try Treelands resort on Chippewa Flowage. A bit more crowded but a great lake and resort.

Kawishiwi Lodge.......if you're wanting to be as close as possible to the BWCA as you can get.

My wife and I rented there along with another couple a few years ago. GREAT, GREAT trip. Close enough to Ely to do some stuff in town like the wolf center, etc, etc. Also a lot of stuff to do in and around the area, including Bass Lake, and the Falls.

AND if you want to paddle, the cabins are directly on Lake one. The cabins are out of the park but the water is in the park. WE got day permits, and paddled every day........

AND you can drive to do a daytrip to the Hegman Pictographs. FANTASTIC.

Later,

Geo

Kawishiwi would get my vote too. I haven't spent more than a night there in their bunk house, but I have friends who have been going up there for years. Not only is it basically in the BW, but it is cheaper than most resorts, and it has a nice family feel to it.

Pearsons on Vermillion is nice, but spendy. They do have a sail boats and Vermillion is a fun lake to sail.

Fenske cabins seem very nice-- from the campgrounds across the lake.

If by bringing a boat you mean a motor boat then consider White Iron Beach Resort in Ely. It is a great, low key family place. There is a swimming beach, canoes to borrow, space for motor boats, great advice from the owners. They used to be an outfitter and we used them back in those days but now we just stay there before and after to be among friends who help us out.
