Not sure what will happen with BWCA, but here is something from Kare 11 news.... Burning restrictions-

Our fire department was warned we may have fire bans soon. But they likely won't include campfires. Pray for rain... After wing night!

These springtime Open Burning Permit variances, restrictions, and bans are much different than those bans that prohibit campfires. These types of DNR or local restrictions happen every spring until the grass greens up, and have to do with getting permits for brush burning, etc. No permit is needed for a recreational fire no more than three feet in diameter by three feet high.

I roofed a friend's cabin in NW Wisconsin a weekend ago. On the drive there, all of the US Forestry signs said "High Fire Danger." It snowed 2 inches Friday night. Sunday morning all of the signs were changed back to "Low Fire Danger." Go figure.

There's been a lot more rain in the Arrowhead region than the middle of Minnesota this spring.

I'm siding with basspro. The fire season really hasn't even started up here in the BWCA area. Might get one later in the season, but this early it's still really wet, and moderatly cold. Check out the MN dnr website for more info on fire danger.Have a good trip, most of the ice should be gone by then.

there is no chance of a fire ban PERIOD. higher chance (much higher) of snow for the majority of the B-Dub on mAy 14th. not just talking,, weather pays my bills--- the Northland will be treated to several precip events over the next 2 weeks,,, most ending in snow.

I mean in the next month--- by late June,,, that's a different story.

I was on the Ely side in early May 2007 and there was a fire ban due to the Ham Lake Fire that started burning on May 5. Conditions may be different this year, but NEVER say NEVER.

Have fun Greeny!

we've done this early may trip every year since 1992 and have encountered every kind of weather other than tornados or earthquakes so i know we could be hit with anything. the way the weather has been around here this spring, i have a feeling we're in for a very interesting trip!
