I see a lot of open water on the web cam at Pine Point Lodge that points to their beach bay, and the area where the Vermillion River dumps into Crane Lake.

I'm curious...

With that much open water on Crane, can one assume there is similar melting going on in the nearby BWCA too? Or is that area ahead or behind Crane in a typical year?

The open water is most likely due to current. According to ice out data, open water is at about the same time. Since much of this week will be just above 32F for highs, I have to think it will be three more weeks until the ice clears.
