Hoping to do just that. I've been meaning for a long time to do the loop above the Lujineda portage (Sawbill EP) into Mug, Wine and all those lakes. Also some easy chill time on Kelso. Looks like Mid August or Mid Sept. Haven't decided yet.
We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.

if the weather holds this June i want to shoreline Coleman Island.it looks like it has lots of bays and backwaters so it should be a good trip.at the speed i move at it should take a couple days.
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

Rose & Duncan area. Just haven't been there... and the stairway portage looks interesting.

Mugwump PMA...Adventure is the draw.
Both Heavycanoe & I have kids who will be old enough to be traveling with us next year so trips like this won't happen again for a while.

Going the "back way" into Thompson off Lac La Croix in Canada. All my life we've gone through the Red Horse River from Sandpoint Lake.
In the WCPP I'm doing two separate trips into places I haven't been. Scenery, wildlife encounters, fishing and solitude. Oh, and meeting other solo travelers for one or two days at a time on my solo trip. I think the biggest thing for me is the challenge.

Expect to drive out to MN this year, means we will be using most of our equipment, not outfitters, we will enjoy that.
We will however rent our canoe and get food from Rockwood Outfitters. We hope to get to Cherokee Lake where we will determine if we go back to Entry #50 or hopefully can proceed out thru Brule, Winchell, Gaskin and Poplar. Time will tell.

I guess I just like seeing and fishing new lakes, I really like combining a route I have been on with new areas. I guess its just my inner explorer that hung around from when I was a toddler. For me I have to be learning weather I am at work, the BW, hunting, or snowmobiling. Seeing and learning new areas is an extension of that.
One group of guys I go with enjoy going to the same fishing holes year after year, I have fun with these guys also, but I an always trying to talk them into going somewhere new, and I usually get turned down because the one time they listened to me we got skunked LOL. Its all good, to each their own, and so on

Trans Quetico trip....from Beaverhouse to Sag. From Beaverhouse to Sturgeon is a repeat but the rest is new. Scenery, fishing, solitude, and bucket list are all part of the equation.

I'm going in the eastern side this year. Entering at Seagull to see what kind of lollipop loop (in, loop around and back out the same way) I can make.
I've always gone in from the west.

Yes, I hope to at the end of May. Start up at the Gunflint trail, and head west to Knife Lake, the veer south into Thomas, Frazier, etc and head back to the Gunflint. Pretty sure Saganaga will be the starting Lake.
Dave
What is drawing me is the fact I haven't been there. Looking forward to a 7 day plus solo. Hope the fishing is good. Want to see the Ribbon Rock by the Isles of Pine on Knife Lake.

Soloing the Pines Loop in Quetico. I have been, literally, all around that area, having gone up thru Kahsh, Kawnipi and down thru Agnes. But I've not yet been in the center of that area. Scenery and solitude are the main draws. Also, I'm using this trip to prepare myself and the people "back home" for a longer solo into WCPP.

So far, all EPs are new for me this year. YOU ALL made me do it! I may be exploring Mudro, LIS, and Slim, (if all goes well, might have to scrap one trip) with one Fall EP left to plan later.
Looking forward to it!

Both our trips will be to new territory.
Doing "The Triangle" late May. Just something new. Checking out the rapids, fishing and looking forward to a relaxing, base-camp focused trip.
Haven't decided on our fall trip yet, but have put a few options on the table.

yes! the new rule for me is to put all the fisher maps numbers i dont have onto their own piece of paper and then into a jar. Sammie picks out of the jar and thats where we are going. we choose then how to get there and get out. if we collect more than one map it comes out of the jar when we get home after the trip.

I generally don't reserve permits and decide on an entry point from what's available once I get uo there. Also, there are a few EPs I have avoided to save them for when I'm older, or at least more feeble (which is quickly approaching). Big Lake, Slim Lake, Magnetic Lake, ... those types.
That said, I have not entered from Crab Lake (#4). I really want to explore the small lakes southwest and west. And then maybe on another trip, the lakes north. I'm not sure if I'll get to it this season, but it is on my list.

Oh I guess I have more new territory than I initially thought. We are going on a true family trip this year. Last year, we basecamped at Fenske and took one day trip in the BW (and one outside the BW). Taking the kids on a real canoe camping trip is definitely true new territory for us! ;-)

Going to do the Mudro-fourtown-Crooked loop this August. Thought about doing it for a long long time before I took my first trip, but didn't feel up to it. With a few trips from the lake one landing under my belt, I feel ready for it. Guess you could call this a bucket list item, but everything else Kanoes mentioned is at play also.
03/24/2011 03:08PM
Yea - two trips this year. First trip in May will be a basecamping trip (long weekend) on Fenske with friends/kids. On that trip we plan to do day trips into Hegman and LIS. These will be new to me. Second trip in August, we'll go back to Fourtown, Horse and Boot. That area was new for us last August and we're going back. We like to get to know an area's fishing spots so we typically go into an area a couple of times before going into a new area.

Two trips planned this summer to new areas. One late-June from McAree thru Wicksteed, Elk, Ted to Prairie Portage. Second late-July from PP thru Kahshahpiwi, Baird, Hoare, Delahey back to PP.

I try to go to a new area every year, it might be a familiar entry point or route, but always try to change it up by seeing different areas of a same lake or hitting lakes off the original route.
I have seen a lot of hte BWCA, but still have a ton left :)

I've been looking at doing something different this Sept, too - somewhere on the east side as ooposed to Ely, where I've always tripped out of before. That's one of the areas I've looked into along with Kawishiwi Lake on the Sawbill Trail and Skipper, Meeds, Caribou, Morgan, etc., area off the Gunflint Trail.
New scenery, adventure, exploration, etc. I've always been one of those guys who just wants to see what's around the next bend, over the next hill, etc.

Going in at EP 52 after staying at the bunkhouse @ Tuscarora. New area for me and taking 2 bewbies.

We are going in at LIS. Looking forward to paddling Lac La Croix in my kayak. Also looking forward to taking some awesome pictures with my new Canon T1i, spending time with my son (God willing), and fishing if time permits.

Going on my very first solo this year. Going to Sawbill, Smoke, Flame and Burnt. I have never been to this area of the BWCAW. Going for fishing, scenery, solitude and adventure. Can not wait.

Have you ever driven out before, Boppa? I like the drive out - probably about 200 miles shorter than yours, but otherwise much the same - and using my own equipment. Take your time and enjoy. I've found that I prefer going through the U. P. of Michigan rather than around Chicago. Not much difference in time or mileage, but a lot less traffic and a lot better scenery. Have a good trip.

I've done the Ensign area a number of times with a large group and solo, and I've done a solo to Insula. This forum has wet my appetite for the EP 23/Mudro/Fourtown/Boot/Fairy/Gun/Bullet/Moosecamp/Fourtown/Mudro loop. I will be solo, and I like this loop. It seems to be full of good fishing and scenery, and I look forward to it. I'm going in August 2nd.

No new EP's for me this year...no old one's either. I have a baby due in June, an new job, and my tripping partner got a new knee. We are looking at a Voyageur National Park trip this year for a long weekend, and maybe opening day of fishing on a BWCA lake within cell phone range.

I hope to get to Knife to see Dorthey Molters cabin site on Knife. We will be camping on Ensign again and this will be a " Bucket List" thing for me. I'm thinking a day trip would be in order.

I'll be exploring and re-exploring some Quetico waterways in June. Enter at Moose Lake/PP, then head west to McNaught, Tuck, McIntyre, Argo, Hurn, Darkwater, William, Suzanette, Burt, Yum Yum, Burke, and back to Moose Lake.
No long paddling days this year, except Day 1 (Moose to McNaught). Plenty of time to fish, swim, and explore with my oldest son (age 14).

Sept trip, Mudro up to crooked looping up thru Horse and back thru Sunday/Gun. All new territory, going for fishing, peace & quiet, adventure, etc.
