I was looking through the BWJ last night and saw on page 96 an ad from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. It is looking for volunteer BWCAW Water Quality Monitors. It looks like you give them a call and "volunteer to check the health of the lakes along your route."

I thought it looked interesting and a great opportunity to give back. I can't make the portage cleaning crew activity, but I may be able to incorporate this into a trip.
