Has anybody tried the 3M Aluminum Restorer and Polish? I have a canoe that could use some sprucing up as well as an old aluminum boat.

I have also heard of people waxing the outside of the canoe to make it glide better through the water, is there any truth to it?

Here is the description of the restorer:
Designed to remove oxidation, growth and stains and to restore a lustrous appearance to bare aluminum, 3M Marine Aluminum Restorer and Polish will also remove heavy oxidation and restore shine to most painted aluminum surfaces.

I've read that conventional wax is hydroscopic, ie it is NOT good to apply to the hull of a canoe as it would - in theory - increase the resistance.

I have no idea if this is true.
