Each year we spend a few days in a cabin after our canoe trip. This year we stayed on Fenske Lake, just off the Echo trail. I'm wondering if anyone has ever stayed at the Lodge of the Whispering Pines, also off the Echo Trail. Any information about this place would be appreciated. They have a website, but beyond that I can't find reviews such as those found on Trip Advisor.

I stayed in a bunkhouse at the Echo Trail Outfitters once, it was nice. Good people too!

We stayed at "Whispering Pines" twice. Very nice place and we even caught walleyes on Big Lake most evenings. They had a couple of resident Dobermans that can be a little intimidating but they are mostly show and probably help as a bear deterent. Great lodge and cabins. There are also a couple of sled dog teams staked out back that are fun to visit. Power is supplied by a generator that wasn't very noticeable. Great hosts and a very nice place with good cabins. Some are actually on the water with your private dock. It also has the only sandy beach on the lake. All of this info is dated but that is what I can recall. I would definitely like to return some day.

Had a bear in camp that got into one of the cabins. They left the door open (just screen) because part of their group was outside in a tent. The next morning the DNR came in with a bear trap on a trailer.

Boatin - Thanks for the info. How long ago did you stay there. I've never been in a cabin powered by a generator. Did you notice the noise?

We have used Echo Trail Outfitters and loved it. The owners are super people and really made sure we enjoyed our stay. (We have bunked there when using the Echo Trail EP's)

Our guest's have rented canoes from them and were very pleased with their service and prices.

The cabins are beautiful and they even have a sauna right off the lake. We saw a group go in and about 10 minutes later they exploded from the sauna house and jumped in the lake. They sure looked like they were enjoying their stay.

I was thinking that would be fun but my mind was more on our upcoming- early morning put in - making sure our group was prepared - fishing lessons, etc....

Diva - We stayed at Echo Trail Outfitters - we were there just last week. Nice place - currently being managed by Fenske Lake Cabins, not the people who ran Echo Trail Outfitters. Fenske Lake is beautiful. Each evening we had a family of beavers swim into our little bay and feed on the vegetation...it was so cool. Each year we like to try a different place (after coming off of our canoe trip) - so we are planning to try Lodge of the Whispering Pines next year - a bit further up the Echo Trail. Thanks for your feedback!

No kiddin'? I haven't been there since last summer - I guess I should have stated such but I can't imagine it being any less beautiful. :-)

Let us know how your stay is at Whispering Pines. We like to try out new places too.
