"Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations. Leave No Trace information helps public land visitors understand and practice minimum impact skills and ethics."

"The Leave No Trace program is a combination of science and common sense for enjoying the outdoors responsibly. The message is framed under seven principles:

Plan Ahead and Prepare
Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Dispose of Waste Properly
Leave What You Find
Minimize Campfire Impacts
Respect Wildlife
Be Considerate of Other Visitors"
Wiki LNT

Maybe a better description would be Leave Minimal Trace. It was and is expected that any travel leaves impact.

Who is this "Trace" guy and why is everyone so concerned about leaving him behind?

It means that frogs can play baseball all they want and even if they don't have the arm to make the majors we should still respect their effort.
