How many nights of use have you gotten with your synmats? I used mine on two trips, and by the 6th night it was going flat. That averages out to just under $20.00 per night, and two more nights on a sinking airmattress before the trip was over. They will send me a new one, but...can I trust it?
My last Thermarest is still good after 7 years, about 5 weeks of use per year.

Aroung 20 nights here. However, The first time out last year, mine both went flat the same first night. There was a tag at the fill valve that said something to the effect of, "IMPORTANT: Be sure to press valve knob down BEFORE turning to prevent damage to valve". My son and freind ignored this and damaged the 'O-RING'. I used soap bubbles to find the leaks....they were both at the valve. Exped replaced them no questions asked with the new pump dlx model. The old ones were 2006 models 'LT Synmat 9 DLX' without the built in pump. I'm confident that had they read and not force-twisted the valve they'd have been fine. My guess is that more than one person made this mistake and thus the instruction/important/warning tag was added . Is your leak at the valve? Ours both took about an hour to go flat....you couldn't hear the air hissing out.

I get irked at people who don't give enough info to really answer their questions or help them...and then I do the same thing.
I have a SynMat 7.5 Basic Deluxe (3.5") without a pump.
Mine has two valves, (intake and exhaust), both with pull-up tabs that snap straight down into place. No screw open/close.
It takes about 35 puffs to fill it fairly solidly.
BL (before leak) it was very comfy. On the 2nd trip I put it into a nylon liner bag to protect it even more.
I never did look for the leak...I just sent it back. They paid the shipping.

Wow, sorry to hear of your troubles. So far I have between 35 to 38 nights with no issues. I do keep a patch kit in our map case for the eventuality however.

Synmat 7.5 Basic here (use the mini-pump to inflate, what a cool accessory). Didn't know they make a Basic Deluxe, interesting. Not many nights use on mine yet as I just got them at the end of May... maybe 7 nights each... but many of those were on plywood (floor or bunk) and used by kids, stepped on on the floor, etc. So far, so good.

Has anyone ever had a complete failure with one of these? and if so, how bad did it suck? I am worried about springing a leak in mine and then going a whole trip with no insulation.

Have an older model Exped Syn mat that is about 5 years old now. probably got a minimum of 100 nights and doesn't seem to lose any air. Only complaint is it's so big compared to the newer model Expeds. TW

That would suck because the thing is as flat as a pool mat. Might help a bit with warmth even flat, but zero cushion whatsoever. I carry the repair kit and four other sleeping pads just in case ;-) (to go with the four other people I can outrank to get their unharmed pad)
