Well it finally happened I am not going to make it to Ely for the first time in years. Work (moving to a new school) caught me as well as other home remodel projects. I think I will be ok until school starts back and I realize I have not had my wilderness fix.
I hope everyone has the trip of their lives this summer and I will be thinking about all of you and yes I will be jealous. One good note I can retire in 84 school days so I will make up for it by taking the September trip I have always dreamed of in the next couple of years.

Georgaboy that's totally a bummer that you won't be able to trip this year. BUT, like you said, once you retire you can take that September trip. IMHO September is the best time to go!
Good luck with all your projects and enjoy your summer off - maybe there's something near where you live that will give you a little bit of a wilderness fix? :)

That is a bummer. I had trip plans fall through, its always a let down. Since I started, much like you, I have not missed a year. I would go nuts. I hope you're able to cope better than I would.
September trips are awesome.

Tony, Sept.is an excellent time to go, particularly later in the month when the fall colors peak and cooler water ramps up the fishing action. In terms of weather, september is usually a month of extremes here in the north. Expect temps to be anywhere from 15 at night to 80 during the day.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

That's really too bad. I feel for you and I can relate. I couldn't go last year because of rotator cuff surgery and my plans are dimming this year because the other shoulder is acting up. I also agree with everyone else, including gutmon (lol....) that September is the best.

Sorry to hear that too! I don't know if I make it this year or not either, unless late Sept or Oct works. Health issue going on that needs to be addressed..
Have a good summer up there everyone.

Never lost. All portages and roads go somewhere or they would not be there.

Georgiaboy, congratulations on your retirement. I was just hired by a district a couple weeks ago. As one educator leaves, one begins. I can't imagine that the possibility of extended summer trips had anything to do with your career choice ;)

Sorry to hear that you won't have a trip this summer, Tony, but anticipate that September trip! September is a good time to go, for sure!
We just returned from a rainy trip at the end of June with a few challenges of its own, so now it will be another year (at least) for us.
Retirement is good. You will probably enjoy it immensely. :-)
