After watching the US vs Canada game I am sooo surprised with how well we played. Miller was the man as stated before. he made some great stops tonight. If we play Canada again it would probably be in the championship game. Great win, we showed the world we can play with the big guys and win.
"Tonight we are the greatest hockey team in the world. you were born the be hockey players, everyone of you. You were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done, its over. I'm soo sick and tired of hearing about how what a great hockey team the soviets have. SCREW 'EM! THIS IS YOUR TIME! NOW GO OUT THERE AND TAKE IT!!" -Herb Brooks
Something that will cheer everyone up.

When the Canadians weren't in the penalty box that third period, it looked like they were on a constant power play at full strength. I don't know if the US really had control of the puck for a span of about 4 minutes in the third period.

One of the ESPN analysts had a pretty good take one it this morning:
The U.S. has the best goalie in the world how far we go will depend on his play. We do not have the scoring power of Canada, Russia, Sweden or Finland but with Miller we will have a decent chance.
Also Team U.S.A just looked like it was really hungry for a win last night, i.e. Kesler beating the Canuck defensemen for that one handed open-netter.
It is going to be a fun medal round! I want Canada again!

Watching this hockey makes me want to see more...not like that usual pro clutch and grab, trip and hook stuff. This is really fast, exciting stuff. Like college playoff hockey but being played by the best players in the world. Maybe the NHL should take notice.

Kevlar you put it perfectly, other than an occasional Wild game , and the N H L playoffs, I dont watch hockey much any more for that reason, but as you said, the style they play in the Olympics is faster, cleaner, and more skill, and it's very entertaining to watch. I think our boys woke a sleeping giant when they beat Canada though, after what I saw against Russia, were in deep trouble if miller cant stop 60 shots. The Canadians are coming to kick a$$ and chew bubble gum, and they may be all out of bubblegum,Go U S A!!

USA played a great tournament, The game today was great. Congrats to the Canadians here. Your team played a little better than the USA today.
As a side note - I do not like the overtime format for hockey in the Olympics - a 20 minute 4 on 4 period and then on to a shootout. Like the Stanley Cup Finals, they should play 5 on 5 for as many periods as needed until someone scores. Teams are structured for 5 on 5 play. Can you imagine if the basketball teams had to play 4 on 4 in their overtime games? And to decide the winner or loser based on an individual effort (shootout) is just wrong. My 2 cents.

I wanted to see Patrick Kane on the ice a little more, in the overtime. Especially in a 4 on 4... Young legs, and he seems to make things happen.
Did someone hammer those medals out, in their garage ?
On another note...This game was the only thing I watched of these Olympics.
Big waste of money.
In my opinion
Now, lets get back to the NHL.

Stumpy, I'm not sure if there is a correlation between your comments and the quote you use at the bottom, but you really need to get over that 'root of bitterness', or get rid of that quote. The Gold in hockey may be a big deal to some people, but no one wants a sore loser. Both teams did their best, and only one could win. Hopefully going back to NHL and having a team that can do some winning will make you happy. Yikes!

No bitterness here at all, and nothing to "get over". I just had little interest in the Olympics, and am looking forward to seeing the Blackhawks back on the ice....and the White Sox on the field in 35 days !

It hurts to loose a game like that but man what a game!
There is no shame at all in loosing to Canada they have always been a hockey powerhouse and always will be, The US team played great throughout the tournament and took Canada to the limit which I am sure will make this win mean a lot more than it otherwise would.
Congratulations to our great neighbors to the north and thanks to the young men on the USA Hockey team who made it such a fun ride.
USA 2014!!!

Oh...that quote !...I forgot it was even there.
That's a bible passage, that amused me as a kid, and I've seen, often true in adulthood. No connection to hockey...unless you want to bring up Dino Ciccarelli.

Extremely entertaining game, I wish the N H L would adopt the style of play that you see at the olympics, It really lets the skill of the players shine through.

Every NHL Stanley Cup playoff game is like that game. In the playoffs, there is no fighting and the intensity is very high. If you haven't tried it - I highly recommend it. I think the Stanley Cup playoffs are the most exciting tournament in all of sports.

It's tough to argue with that mc2mens....and I love baseball.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs, every other night, when your team is in it, is a HUGE rush.

Still recovering from the loss but games like that is what makes following sports so much fun.
The Canadians obviously had more talent based on paper and how many of their players are stars in the NHL. The fact that a younger US team beat them in the prelim rounds and took them to O.T. in the gold medal game shows how much heart and intensity they played with. In my opinion they definately did their country proud.

Yeah, I'm hoping they allow the NHL players to go to Russia and compete in four years. The US team is very young and they should be even better than this years team.
The problem is that Canada has some real good young players too. :)
