It's been a while since i've been up there in august. we're planning a trip for the 2nd week of august and am curious if there is any insight people may have as far as bugs, fishing and weather?
If it makes a difference, we'll be going out from the echo trail - west side
thanks

Bugs-not bad. Skeeters are on the downward trend but will be around on portages and especially at dusk. Deer flies are out, ticks are gone. Bees may be problematic at times if it is starting to cool.

Weather-seasonal but it could get real hot (90's) or it could get to freezing or slightly below. Averages are highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. Rain and storms usually are not all day affairs, but they may rumble through mid-afternoon.

Fishing it depends. It can be great or it can be slow. Depends again on you finding them and the weather.

Its a nice time to be in the wilderness as the seasons begin the transition between summer and fall.

Like bogwalker said, fishing can be hit or miss. You might try fishing in deeper water with some live bait. It worked for a few time.

I have done roughly the same week for the last 3 years. 8 day trips

Year 1 85-100 and sunny, no bugs to be seen, low water.

Year 2 70's and partly cloudy, 1 night of thunderstorms, temp dropped halfway through. Woke up to frost in the AM, cold rain, and wind. 1 tick.

Year 3- 70's, mostly to partly cloudy. last 2 days. 4" of rain for one, and drastically cooler temps after. No ticks

Bugs aren't that bad at that time of year, but the weather can literally do anything.
