I know a lot of people bring dogs to the BWCA. but what about other pets.
has anyone brought a cat, rat, ferret, goldfish, etc...
and is it even legal?
just a questions of curiosity

If I had a dog, I definately would bring him or her with me on a solo trip. But, I have a cat & there is no way she would go up there. I can't even get her in my truck for a 4 block ride to the vet.

So you all understand.
I have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 ferrets, and 5 mice.
i'm thinking of makeing a BWCA zoo trip.
I think only the dogs would make it back with me though.

Trix,
If a cat is raised that way, they like to go on hikes and long walks. I had such a cat but it was before I had begun canoeing. Fortunately, I also had a dog that would have defended the cat had another dog come down the trail.
My brother used to take a cat backpacking. When it would get tired, it would ride on top of his pack.
Cats also learn to accept riding in cars, although they rarely learn to enjoy it as do dogs. Some people take cats on long car trips, camping along the way. My wife and I did that back in the early 70s.
I don't have any cats these days because acquaintances often give me orphaned wild baby birds to raise. While the dogs I have owned have been neutral, or loved, the birds, I don't trust any cats in that respect.
