Did anyone else get hit with that storm last Sunday? We got pinned down on Upper Pawnas (spelling?) on the way out for an hour with quarter sized hail, thunder, and lightning. I was also wondering if hail can puncture a kevlar canoe.

We got smoked in it too on the way out on the portage in between Bower Trout and Marshall. No hail, but lightning was wicked. I quickly set the alum canoe down!! Temp dropped to 55 degrees in a hurry!

We got pinned to an island on Insula. More rain than anything, not much wind and the lightning was mostly north of us. A little bit of pea size hail.

While checking the weather before heading north to my grandmothers 80th birthday party I saw the storm on radar and captured the image. This was before it became sever. There were 3 warnings issued for it just after.
Here is the pic:

I was on the portage between Hensen and Pillsbery on the Gunflint side. The winds were coming from the SE while the storm approached from the WNW...pretty odd the cell was drawing surface air. 30-45 minutes it rained hard, serious lighning (many hit land within .5 mile) and Pea size hail...some larger. We sat on our large pack and waited it out. Does anyone know the stats on how many people have been injured by lightning in the BWCAW?

Two of us were on Basswood Lake when the storm hit. We were just breaking camp and decided to leave the hammocks up. We began to sit it out under the tarps, and then climbed into the hammocks to stay warm.

We were in a bad spot, on a point pretty exposed to the wind and hail, if it would have been worse we could have crawled under that Kevlar canoe- they stop bullets and hail right?

Because of the heavy rain, the portage from Good Lake to Hula Lake was amazingly muddy. I ended up taking off my sandals and hiked all 150 rods barefoot-too lazy to unpack my boots.

I was in Ely at the time of the hail storm, but when we returned to fenske lake we noticed the hail. I prayed that nobody was on the water at the time of the storm.

We were sitting at Black Robe waiting for the tow boat when it hit. Didn't notice any hail on us but lots thunder and lightening close by.

The picture is of 2 guys we met who were also waiting for the tow boat, paddling east towards portage in the last rays of sunshine... minutes before the storm hit.

Was staying on the most far east site on Malberg when it hit. Saw two water tornados aprox 12 feet high coming down the channel, resembled the scene from the movie Twister. Hit us with high winds as I held the tarp from ripping free.

It was quite interesting and came on quick. We were on the portage into Poly when it hit. We sat it out in our raingear at the end of the portage waiting for it to clear. It was a nice break from the heat after doing that long portage in. So strange to see ice falling from the sky when it was 90 out shortly before.

We got hit by the storm on 6/1, pinned down on an island in Burt (nw of Kashipiwi). Rumor has it that the wind speeds reached 70 mph. We had canoes and paddles flying around camp, had to put a couple of extra ropes on the tent, lost the rain fly, and then just waited it out in rain gear. Short but fierce.

Myself and four other guys were on Cherry Lake when it hit. Wasn't bad at all, a little wind and some rain but no hail. We all went to bed at 7:30 that night.

We had an established camp, but that was not fun. The weather band gave us pretty good warning though. Note for next year: get a better tarp. The wind ripped our tarp in half, and streached a couple ropes out in the first 2 minutes.
