I have not been able to find very much info about this lake. Does anyone have any info they could share in regards to fishing, campsites or fishing day trips? Four of us are thinking about taking a five day trip towards the end of June.

I'm not 100% sure since I haven't been there, but i was under the impression that Crocodile Lake was more of a destination than a launching point, ie: you can't get anywhere from there.

There are only two campsites on Crocodile Lake, so it shouldn't be too hard to just check them out and pick which looks better. If you use EP66 you aren't allowed to camp anywhere else.

For day trips you could go up the Crocodile River towards Shelf Lake, skimming the edge of the BWCA. There's no portage into Shelf. I don't think you can go out through Bearskin to Alder because that would be leaving and re-entering the BWCA, on a different day and not at your EP. I don't know what the Forest Service would say if they found you elsewhere and you told them you'd bushwhacked there from Crocodile.

Frankly five days at this EP would bore me to tears.

There are actually 3 campsites on this lake. One is an elevated and heavily wooded peninsula sight just down from the portage landing and the other two are at the far end of the lake/river. I stayed here 3 years ago and found we had the lake to ourselves except for an occasional fisherman in for the day and lots of friendly flys. Very peacefull and very quiet. The fishing is pretty much Walleyes only. Great place to avoid crowds without a long paddle or portage.

I headed to Crocodile Lake this past fall at a recommendation of a fishing friend. He says they have had great luck fishing walleye there. We had some luck, but only small fish and they were all caught right off our campsite. We were at the campsite across the lake from the portage.
