Received this in an e-mail:

Mosquitoes and blackflies can be a nuisance in the Boundary Waters, and many visitors are in search of new ways to keep them at bay.

On September 8th, join well-known author and canoeist Cliff Jacobson for a presentation on bug-proofing your camp. Learn how to resist bugs with repellents, insecticides, head and body nets, specialized clothing and “attitude”. He'll provide recommendations for children and pets, too.

Bug-proofing your Campsite
A Lunch with the Friends virtual presentation
Wednesday, September 8
12pm Central Time

Registration

Might be worthwhile...might be something like, just hide in the woods where the bugs aren't used to finding people.

Cliff... will there really be anything new or of particular note in this sermon?
Hard pass.

Let's see if I can preview his notes:
Go in the early spring or late fall
Soak your clothes in permethrin
Spray yourself with picaradin, or DEET if you are old-school
Bring a head net
Buy my wife's bug shelter
Put up with the bugs, it's part of the experience
Buy my books

What could he possibly say that’s not already commonly known? People have been dealing with bugs and outdoors forever.

So cynical :)

Jeez- tough crowd indeed. Couldn't you say the same thing about bwca.com? Isn't the forum basically the same dozen or so topics?

I hope he has a good turnout of greenhorns and supporters. Most of the members here have 'been there~done that'...which toughens into crusty outdoorsy type. I recently returned from Sylvania Wilderness Area and mosquito count was 2. Female hummingbirds were still flying about too. That was surprising.

But until we solve the innie outie debate. Solve The Who’s style of tripping is the best and what lure catches the most fish debate Bwca.com will live on for years to come. Haha! What this site has done best is bring people together with all types of views. It shows that no matter how right you are someone else is righter. Haha. Cliff has been a great mainstay in the canoeing world. He has down pat what works for him. Made even a few bucks off of his right way of doing things. The good news we’re free to pursue what is our right way of doing things. I have great respect for Cliff. Don’t always agree with him, but he has way more experience then me and in way worse bugs then myself. And if in doing what he does helps out a few people... good for him! The Grand Rapids... your generation is the future right now of this site. I hope you meet many great people as I did and help promote not just the BW’s but all canoeing opportunities.
Now back to the debates... did nctry stand for North Country or Nice Try? Hmmm

Ha ha. Ben, you ol' pot-stir-er :)

...and for the record...I thought it had something to do with "getting to North Carolina" and "trying"...but I could be wrong....maybe Ben will do a 'big reveal' at the next 'Copia' in that downstairs basement party room at that Italian restaurant. I think that I may have dragged this thread way off the OP. My apologies :)

You mean it's not "Nut Cry"... because that's what I thought it was following your posts for a year. And are you sure TheGrandRapids is in MN or MI? Even our water tower says' GRAND RAPIDS IT'S IN MINNESOTA ('s nature- but you can't see that part if you are driving south to north)

Exactly my sentiment! Same goes for school education: these bores keep talking about the same thing for centuries...
