An Ice Storm Warning is out for the North Shore. Let's hope it's not too bad. Izzy

We took a short drive up highway 7 north of where we live, and the devastation that resulted from the ice storm here was unbeleiveable! Thousands upon thousands of tree with tops broke off, trees slpit, hundreds and hundreds of trees and limb that had fallen across the road, power lines down, some people north of here will be without power until mid-march. I think it was estimated that over 600,000 acres of trees were damaged. This is just one example of what we saw...

this is what it was like at our house, 25 miles south, we only lost 15 big limbs, and one tree.

Prayers are that the storm is not bad...

We had an ice storm in central Iowa back in the early 90's that left an inch of ice on top of everything. What a mess. We had about 2 miles of a electric power lines held up by those huge steel towers that went down. The weight of the ice not only brought down the lines but snapped the towers as well. I talked to a retired lineman who was being paid $125/hour to come out of retirement to help repair all the down lines.

When I was about 13-14 years old, we had an ice storm in Southern MN that coated everything with almost an inch of solid ice. My friends and I put our skates on and were able to go wherever we wanted- across yards and fields, streets (no cars anywhere), up and down hills. I'll bet we skated at least 10 miles that day. To this day I remember it as being magical...

Gutmon - we had a storm like that in the Chicago area back in the 70s. We did the same thing, skated on top of the snow in the yard. The only time I remember it ever being like that, although this year we came close!

I remember that storm, gutmon! Magical for the kids, but I bet it was a huge PITA for the adults.
