Back in the mid 50's,early 60's my Scout troop would on the last nite of our summer canoe trip make a commemorative paddle. a map was burned in and we all made our mark in some way.
with winter deep on us up in canoe country i thought it would be a good time to offer up my new version of that paddle. this was a winter project some years ago when i realized that i had made almost twenty trips into lake Agnes in the Quetico over a ten year period.
eighteen,i went into Sara Lake one spring and that fall into the BW.
but nine years without a break was still worth a paddle.most of the trips were eleven or twelve nites with a nine and a couple ten's with buddys who had to leave early to drive back East..
i used an old Feather Brand paddle that had many years of use on St Croix with my Old Red fiberglass canoe in the years before i got a job that offered vacation with pay.
i still need to mark the bands around the shaft with the years i went up to Agnes..
i traced the lake from a McKenzie map that i had used on most of my trips.it was a tight fit but that old beaver tail paddle held most of the lake.
it's just a level trail thru the woods.
