May/June Crooked Lake. Too early to be sure. Plan on rallying for commitment over Christmas.

What about the 'non-gentlemanly scoundrel wrath' as well?! ha ha

Okay, I would like to trek North twice this year. Once by myself, hopefully to meet up with Cheryl if it works out, for a good solid trip, any route will do. And, once with the kids, back to Baker Lake, probably base camping.

I also would like to take a group of older kids out of Sawbill to Weird or possibly the Hog creek route b/c I could get paid for this. It would take a lot of plotting but I might be able to do it.

At this point I'm not sure when or with whom, but I know I'll be planning a trip. All of my previous trips have been to the Number Lakes/Insula area. Time to try something new... maybe Knife.

11/01/2008 09:48PM
Preliminary plans have my wife and I trying to go in at Lizz and base camping on Gaskin the end of Aug. I'm excited to go the last week of Aug. this year. With Labor day being so late (Sept. 7) next summer school won't start until the 8th so we won't start workshop until Sept.

11/01/2008 11:54PM
i am thinking hard about a portage clearing trip early may with bogs crew

sometime later in may or june i am wanting to take my first quetico trip-looking at a loop from French lake down Baptism Creek to Cache Lake. from there float the cache river to Kawnipi. then up through Shelley, Keats, Chatterton, Russell and back out by way of Pickerel.

will definitely squeeze in a couple long weekends as well

planning is half the fun and late fall/winter is the time to start!

11/02/2008 03:34PM
I am hoping on two trips.

One will start on Little Isabella to Quadga. From that point I'm not sure.

The second trip will be up for grabs but will be the shorter of the two.

11/02/2008 04:00PM
At least 3 trips next year...a solo out of Baker most likely, a basecamp with my son either out of Homer or Island River, and a longer trip with hubby in Quetico....probably in late July or early August.

Early May - Utah for the Green River

August - Quebec for the Dumoine River (or possibly the Noire - still negotiating this)

Looks like we won't get to BWCA for '09 unless it's on the way back from Quebec. But variety is good.

leaning toward 2 BWCA trips
1) Spring: Hog creek to South Kawishiwi (36 to 32)
2) Fall: Enter Baker Lake (39) or Sawbill (38) or Kawishiwi Lake (37) and head toward Kekekabic (route and details yet to be decided)

leaning toward a road trip into Manitoba....... set a coarse north to Winnipeg, connect with Highway 6 and head up between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba...... then to The Pas and maybe Flin Flon....... take the canoe, the dog, "the wife", the camping stuff and just take a look around.

a little different plan for our may trip. tina and i are talking about hiking the pow wow trail again. we did it a few years ago and she said never again but i think ive talked her into it! we would probably do a 6 or 7 day canoe trip first and the pow wow after. thats what we did last time and it worked out great.

also planning as many trips as i can with the grandson.

Always try and do a bigger, longer, and more challenging trip every year. I've pretty well exhausted the BWCA, but have much of Quetico to further explore.

Might try Woodland Caribou, or perhaps the far Northern or Western reaches of the Q this time.

At 55 my time to do really tough 110 mile trips will eventually expire, and I forced to base camp with the old folks. :-)

Tentative plan of early August going with my wife (her first time) and starting at snowbank and going that way --> until we get to a good spot and catch up with each other ( I work 1st shift and she works 2nd, hardly see each other). It would also be around our anniversary.

11/04/2008 03:18PM
Coming in early June with some guys from church. Maybe up Moose into Knife and that area.

Maybe might be able to come up in July over to Isabella or Sawbill area. My buddy always goes over in that area and he's asked me to go this year.

Now that I'll be retired from teaching, hope to come a 3rd time with the Mrs. in mid-September. Don't know where for that one.

11/04/2008 06:46PM
Had a Quetico trip in the works but looks like it is possibly in the hold phase due to bow partners work obligations.

We are also looking at the Gunflint Trail and Poplar Lake for a trip in late August back into the BWCAW.

Two trips:
July going in on West Bearskin and up to Rose.
August to hang out on Brule with my wife to relive our honeymoon 27 years ago.

01/10/2009 08:43PM
Right now it looks like two trips but I'd like to do three. Guys from work in Sept, a trip with my son mid-summer and hopefully one with my wife and daughter. No idea where yet. I doubt any of them will be too intense, short loop or base camping. I

01/10/2009 09:40PM
Change in plans from 1st post. Man Chain in Quetico instead of the Crooked Loop in May.

01/10/2009 09:42PM

Quetico trip in June. Entering at Beaverhouse. Maybe.... just maybe.... I'll have a 2nd trip about 10 days later in the Boundary Waters. Have to see how the schedule all works out.

01/11/2009 07:33AM
Kanoes? Maybe we'll see each other on that route. Heck, I might even share a campsite w/ you. A little Everclear peace offering would most likely seal the deal.

01/11/2009 08:11AM
If I don't get an email or phone call in the next two days, I'll apply to the lottery for my second 8-day solo in a row. Alone or with a partner, this will be my first trip where the entire focus is fishing.

01/11/2009 10:18AM
My plans (which will change except for Feb.) at the moment are:
February - Hegman Lakes
June - Crooked Lake Loop
July - Family trip to Numbered Lakes
October - short trip with my daughter only - undecided

I am looking forward to experiencing the 4 seasons this year.

OK,.... If I go it will be just me and I would go anywhere. That is why I am putting my name out there for a possibility of hooking up with somebody. I know it's to early to tell right now but I would gladly fill in for someone who has to back out (for whatever reasons), this alone would make a trip very special as I do not care where the trip is (as long as it is a week or more). keep me in mind and let me know as time draws near!

doing my first solo this year. undecided date/route (got some ideas though) due to uncertainty with employment.

01/13/2009 12:20AM
Got confirmation from my 16 year old that we're goin' the 2nd week in august. Now to ask my 3 nephews if they wanna go too! An odd number would be great cause then I'd get to bring my solo canoe. :)

Probably in at Snowbank to Adams/Boulder and out through Insula and the numbered lakes.

I think we're going to shoot for 3 trips up there this year. In May, we're hoping to get our permit for Snowbank (entered lottery) and plan to fish/basecamp on Thomas/Fraser with my wife, Sister, and Brother-in-law. My brother-in-law is a big fisherman who grew up on the coast of Texas and has never been to the BWCA. It should be fun.

Around the 4th of July, I'd like to take my wife to Quetico. We're thinking the Man chain. Any opinions on entering from Ely vs. Gunflint for this one?

In late Sept/early Oct, we're hoping to get up there to see the fall colors and do a lot of photography. For this one, we may just cruise from Ely to Gunflint via the back roads and day-trip into the BWCA along the way...

Isn't planning a great deal of fun?! I truly enjoy ordering maps and looking at them and dreaming....anyway, I am planning my first solo trip in early June, specific date undecided but I am thinking June 3 or so. I have always tripped into the western BW, out of Ely, and decided to change things up for a solo trip. I am pretty sure I am going in at Sawbill and doing a loop in 8-9 days that looks something like this- Sawbill, Alton, Beth, Grace, Phoebe, Knight, Hazel, Lake Polly, Koma, Malberg, Louse River, Trail lake, Dent, Chaser, Mesaba, Hug, Duck, Zenith, Lujineda, Kelso River, Alton, Sawbill. I am planning to fish a LOT, and really enjoy some time alone. I am training for the trip now as, at 48 years old, I need to be prepared. I am very excited about it and spend a lot of time making lists and plans.

In August, mid August or so before school starts, I am going to take my wife on a 5-6 day trip through the number chain. I want her to enjoy the experience and I have involved her in looking at maps and doing a bit of planning. She seems up for it so I look forward to that time with her.

Can I get away for a mid fall trip? Not certain but I maybe can fit it in......C'MON, SPRING!!!!!!

01/13/2009 12:44PM
We plan to go in early August. Depending on our group, if there is one, we'll either base camp on Horse or Agnes. If there is no group, some kind of loop around one of those areas.

01/13/2009 02:44PM
I hopefully have at least two trips planned. I am determined to do my first solo the first week in June & take my Hubby on a 2nd trip 3rd week in August somewhere up the Gunflint.

01/13/2009 04:06PM
All you folks with the 3 and 4 trips per summer have me feeling bad. I will be lucky to get up north at all this year.

If I work it out probably in late May or early June. I will stay out of the park this year. I'm thinking about the Veggie chain or maybe Grassy Lake in from Fenske.

01/13/2009 04:10PM
My trip is booked ! 6-3 to 6-13 via EP55.Had to fit it in between the birth of our first grandchild in early May and a Trade show for work in late June. Izzy

What do you like about Gabbro/Bald Eagle? Do you stay on BE or Gabbro?

01/23/2009 12:26PM
June trip with the wife for 4 days probably just to Agnes(ep16)

July trip with my dad for 7 days on Crooked (doing a tow with Zup)

August another trip with my dad (not sure where we'll go yet)

01/23/2009 01:24PM
June 7th to 13th. Enter at Isabella and explore Perent River, Fungus Lake PMA on 6/9 and 10, then exit out the west end of Isabella and head down Island River to check out the pictos on 6/13.

I have a group of college friends from Maine coming out to experience the BWCA for the first time. I think this trip will be a good combination of easy and exotic. Nice lakes, beautiful rivers. Good moose habitat and great fishing...

Late May - My daughter will be in the BWCA doing research with folks from her college and, after her work, we will head into the Quetico for a week. Thinking Sunday, Lousia, maybe Glacier, then east to Man Lakes, then out via Carp and Birch.

Early-Mid September: Quetico - Solo, solo with group from here or something to catch it one more time. Still hoping for a group to Wabikimbi.
