Just to let the forum be aware that in the latest issue of "Paddler Magazine" an account of the shooting incident of August 7, 2007 on Basswood Lake is in a article called "Get Off Our Land". This is for me in the East the first written account of the incident that I have seen.

It was written by a free lance writer, Pete Rognli. His focus in reporting the incident is to question if a hidden disdain exists between locals and outsiders, leaving any conclusion up to the reader. This point has already been discussed to death, IMHO on this forum. The article does not have any of the legal judgments that have occurred, so is more about an ugly incident that occurred in an unlikely place, the BWCAW.

May I add that this is not an attempt to get opinions expressed once again on this issue. IT is to let the forum know about an article in a national publication that refers to the BWCAW, an interest of all of us.

There was an article in an Illinois publication on this incident, suggested the hostility was a big issue & getting worse.

To me, something of this severity seems isolated.

Can you direct me to the discussion previous? I don't want to start something up again, but would be curious to read the previous discussion.

I concur with your statement that this incident was isolated and for me, rare as well.
