Izzy, I love Steely Dan! But you may have opened a musical can of worms here. For all the cedar strip canoe builders on the board, I recommend Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson's "Boats To Build". If I ever get around to building one myself, each session in the shop will start with this playing in the background.

IMO, the greatest guitarist on the face of the planet at this point in time. To keep it BWCA related, here's Mr. Joe Bonamassa with "The River"

Last night I was at Chicago's Vic Theater to see one of my all time favorite bands from Manchester, England. James is the name. Fantastic show.
Usually, no one pays attention to the opening acts, but last night's opening act was awesome. She had the whole place in the palm of her hand. None of you have probably heard of her. Her name is Amy MacDonald, from Scotland. Great soulful and folksy music. There's something about a women's Scottish voice in song. Judge for yourselves. Platinum selling artist in the UK.

I agree Jan. She was very humble and gracious to the crowd in person. You could tell she loved sharing her music with us. I was her age when my band was going strong and "almost" made it. Just wasn't able to break out of the local scene....oh well. :) It is great seeing new talent and for them to make it. So hard to do.

And a song from James. Sorry Izzy. I felt the need to post two songs of the day. Live Video from Chicago's show.
James--Live in Chicago
Leaving in a few minutes for the Milwaukee show. YES!!

bapabear,
I bought that CD for my kids last year. It plays in my wife's minivan ALL the time. There are a few other good songs on that disk as well- but that one is the funniest!
WhiteH20, the song is by Brent Holmes he has a few CD's out.
More info here.

As a huge music fan, I enjoy this thread quite a bit. I like many different genres of music, so it's fun to see all the different ones posted. Some excellent ones so far.
For my contribution, here's one that made me say, "Wow!"
To keep it relevant to the BWCA, all I can say is that it's a similar mellow beautiful feeling, just for the ear. Incendio - Los Rios.
Enjoy!

Felt like sharing this one that I was reminded of today while listening to Pandora. Jake Shimabukuro amazes me with his ability to play a _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Still can't believe it.

Kanoes,
You really a BC fan? I thought I was one of the few holdovers to 80's alternative. Some of the deeper track are even more impressive. 13 Valleys

Kanoes, I'm liking your songs.
Lately I'm on a Ronnie Lane kick. Here's a song from his mid 70's band Slim Chance. This song was actually recorded on a grassy hill on Ronnie's farm in Wales, UK. Great stuff.

I own all of wilco's stuff but really liked them from '96 - 2000.
Shall we rock? This is video of a great band from St. Louis that I took in May '08. The Bottle Rockets - 24 Hours A Day
Side note: The singer/guitarist for them (Brian Henneman) was the guitar tech/roadie for Uncle Tupelo which was Jeff Tweedy's (Wilco singer) first band back in the early 90's.

Try a little of the Subdudes. Great music from Louisiana. This clip includes Fred Tackett from Little Feat. I saw them at the MN Zoo 2 years ago. A thunderstorm killed the electricity for a while. What did they do? Played acoustical for the first 45 min.

Interesting Kanoes.
This is the first video submitted to MTV in 1986 after The Replacements signed their major label deal. It's not hard to see why it didn't get much play.
Ya gotta love that old school set up though. :)

Nice long soulful blues tune from Coco Montoya. Coco started out with Albert Collins, then went with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers before going solo.
And to lighten it up, one from Trout Fishing In America, doing a great version of a Buddy Holly tune. These guys are normally billed as a "kid songs" band.
Enjoy!

A cover of Redbone's Come And Get Your Love by the best rock band in the business right now, The Bottle Rockets.
I shot this video in August in Nashville. Good times. :)

Lots of good entries so far. Had a chance to see the Subdudes a while back with Taj. Warren Haynes in a few different forms.
Stumbled across these guys last spring. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
another version More Traditional: Annabelle These two really compliment each other. Gillian Welch is one of the voices in the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Probably a lot of varied interest in music across the board.
If you like songs about riverboats and the like, John Hartford is hard to beat.
A few people might relate to the lyrics on this one... In Tall Buildings Or this one Gumtree Canoe

Great song Kanoes. I first heard Kasey Chambers sing this as a duet with her Dad in Chicago then got the Prine "duets" cd. Great cd too!
Here's another one in a similar vein by Kasey Chambers.

Nope. Got all her cd's. She's an Aussie. Try her first cd if you want to check her out. She's huge in australia but pretty obscure here in the states.

Hey, thanks. The music here is fun. I am always looking for new tunes for a folk group i sing with and to use as background for my self done BWCA trip DVDs. Not so many tunes here that I can use but still some very fun new (and old) inspiration. Good job guys. Keep'em comin'!

Grandma L I am putting a DVD together this week of my august trip and since me and the son heard this Boston 1st album at least twice while driving it seems like the logical choice for the background.

I just finished watching a replay of Led Zepplin, The Song Remains The Same. I was watching it last night but fell asleep at 1:30 in the morning. Bonham rocks to Moby Dick. So i thought there is a correlation to fishing with a song about a big Fish AKA-I mean Whale!!!

WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING THAT I COMPLETELY MISSED THIS THREAD?????
I'm actually kind of mad at myself for not seeing this sooner. I'm a HUGE music junkie, anything from rock, country, metal, blues, jazz, and yes even rap. 99% of rap does indeed suck; there are some good artists out there but I'll spare you unless you want it.
Nothing beats early Miles Davis on a rainy morning:
Davis - Generique
And for my current favorite, the new lineup of the Allman Brothers from the DVD "Peakin' at the Beacon": ABB - Instrumental Illness
Enjoy!
