27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for.............
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Fishguts,

That's an urban legend - see http://www.snopes.com/science/mars.asp for what I mean - no, I am not so smart, it's just that I remembered the same email from a friend a coupla years back.

But don't let that interfere with your stargazing! It's nice to get away from all the light pollution and see what's really up there.

I remember receiving that email too. I'm still waiting for my big check from Bill Gates.
Talk about easy money :)

Of course, since we are in a new moon, it will still just look like one moon. Doh!

Non-sense....urban myth perpetuated for quite some time now.

Snopes has served me well the last few years. I got the Mars email too, 6 or 8 months ago.
