Neufox,
I bring a pair of goggles on all my trips. It's fun to see what is down there when I go swimming. Also, makes locating my lures a lot easier!

I have located many a rusted out vintage lures with my trusty goggles. I have found that a mask, snorkel, and finns are too much bulk and weight for the activity. A small pair of goggles and a life jacket make for a good afternoon of underwater exploring though
Who I am precedes what I do, not the other way around.

I once camped at a site on the north west side of Nina Moose; the only flat spot was just large enough for my 4-man tent and the rest of the site was a rock face sloping steeply from the trees all the way down to the drink. I remember wondering how much gear I would find if I dove down to the bottom of that rock... I might have to throw the kid's goggles in the pack next time.

I have done a fair amount of snorkeling in the BWCA. There is a small window in that you can go without a wetsuit (shorty). It is a good diversion and something else to do, but the gear requirements do take up so space/weight.
My suggestions are gloves, head cover, and a shorty thin wetsuit, along with the snorkel mask, fins.
Of course if you are fat you already have a wetsuit, I guess if you are real fat you would not be up there, I am skinny and need all the insulation I can get.
I have seen some cool stuff and have had a good time with it.
Oh and always bring a good knife, well secured with you, if you get a treble hook caught in your wetsuit or leg attached to someones high test braided line 5 ft under the water, you will find out why.
