Anybody know a good supplier in the Duluth area? I get down to the Twin Cities occasionally as well so that would be an option. Looking to make 2 toboggans so if anybody happens to have enough scrap for that laying around I would consider that as well.

I bought somw UHMWPE(slicker and more flexible than HDPE) from KNOTT Supply in Arden Hills. Northest corner of 35W and 694. 4 x 10 sheet that I had them rip down to 15 in wide. Split the cost 3 ways with 2 other board members.
I am sure they have the HDPE.

out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the UHMWPE?

I think I have some plastic that you might be able to use, either UHMW or HDPE. I will have to look. What size are you looking for?

I think it was around $140 for the sheet before tax and cutting.

I am buying 2 4x10 sheets of UHMW in Pequot Lakes on my way down to the cities for thanksgiving. I need enough to make 4 toboggans. Should leave enough plastic left over for two more. I will sell you the other two pieces for $33 bucks (1/3 of the cost of buying two full sheets)plus shipping if your interested? For anyone else that is interested HERE is the source. Its from a company called North Country Machining.

I forgot he was going to charge me a little extra to rip it to 16" widths. He didn't say how much but I can't imagine it would be too much. I'll be honest with the price, I am not trying to make a buck off of this, just don't want more crap laying around my garage

$33 really?!? From everyone I've talked to that is a great price. I'll gladly take 'em both off your hands.

Cool. shoot me an email. I will ship them to you after the Thanksgiving weekend.

Does anybody have a picture of the finished product they could show. Do you like this toboggan better than the hard plastic 6 foot jobs you can buy for $20.00?

pinetree-have you seen the Black River Toboggan ?

most diy versions will look something like this, maybe different types of cross members or lashing system. i really like mine! i also have a couple of the "standard" orange paris expedition sleds and they are great but actually only have about 4' capacity and not nearly as easy to pull and keep upright.

Looks nice the longer length should slidereal good and you should be able to keep a low center of gravity. Remember when I first started winter camping had a 4 foot sled and narrow and it would tip over all the time because of the high center of gravity of the load.

I got mine from Seelye Plastics in Duluth. It's off Garfield Ave at the end. Was only $45 I think for a 4' x 8' sheet 3 years ago.

I just got a quote from seelyplastic in duluth. fit's 4x10 sheet of UHMW for 189.75 a sheet ripped to 16". Seems steep but the cost of a 10' blank of HDPE from black river is roughly the same price. It was the white "virgin" plastic. Anyone else have any left over?
