10/12/2004 09:30PM Nice report. I'm 50 and am delighted to see that you did a solo at 63....I'm encouraged! Next year you may want to try a kevlar solo...the Prism weighs in at 30 pounds or so. Just looking out for you! |

09/13/2004 08:18AM Thanks for the report Sulivan Ilman. I have paddled all parts of this route, just never all at one time. It is fun to hear a report that you could follow with images in your mind. I can tell from your report you are far from a new paddler. Welocme to the board and post a few more times and you will lose the "New Paddler" title. I was through Friday bay back in July and the USFS rangers I met told us about that bear. We also did not see him but did see tracks and scat on the portage out of the south end of Friday. I have since heard of a bear at the Sand Beach Campsite oin the east shore below the island on Saturday Bay. Could be the same bear, but that is further than I would expect he would travel. Thanks again. Gald to hear you made it back safely in this year that will go down as one of the windiest I can remember in a while. |

09/12/2004 02:52PM Your rating of "New" is only an indication of how many times you have logged on to this site (I believe). Thanks again for the report. |

09/12/2004 02:08PM Yes, I did use an MSR white gas stove. Fires are meant to be shared and as I was paddling solo I left the firewood for others. (At some camp sites I did gather some wood for the next camper to use.) [This site has me listed as a new paddler. I am far from being new to paddling as I have paddled in about 40 different states and I've done a "ton" of whitewater. Just new to posting trips for the BWCA.] Sullivan IL man |
