06/18/2006 10:06PM Great to hear how so many of you relate to our father/son trip. It is something that Jaryd and I will never forget. |

06/17/2006 07:22PM Enjoyed the report. I took a similar "journey" with my #2 son back in 2000. Brought back great memories. He's gone with me to the BWCA every year since then until this year. He just graduated from college and started a new job so he wasn't able to go. I sure did miss him when I went up last week. Can't get #1 son to go back after our "journey" in 2004. He'd rather go out west on his walkabouts. I've always wondered how God can create so much beauty as there is in the BWCA. Dennis |

06/02/2006 05:24AM By the way, I always wondered why Weird Lake was weird, too. When we were there in '92 it should have been called "Moose Lake". We had more moose sightings there than anywhere in our experience. A large bull one evening, a cow and twin calves, two other cow moose sightings, and a young female who ate off shore for about a half-hour while we were having breakfast. The moose who came to breakfast--maybe that is weird enough! There has been a fire in the area since then, and I suspect it looks very different. |

06/01/2006 05:42PM Preacher, I really enjoyed reading your report and seeing your photos. Spartan1 and I did that route (in the other direction) as a part of our 22-day trip in 1992, and we have returned to Cherokee Lake since. That is a favorite campsite of mine because of the "sitting rock" that juts out into the lake. A great place to meditate, write in your journal, sit and watch the lake and the sky. Your son is blessed to have you for a dad, and it sounds like you are pretty thoroughly blessed yourself! I am a church choir director, and I often think of the Psalms when I am in the BWCA, particularly Psalm 8 (When I consider the heavens. . .what is man, that thou art mindful of him. . .etc.) I sing hymns on the portages to keep a cadence in my step (silently, of course). Thanks for sharing your story. |

05/31/2006 11:26PM Amazing story. I have to say it brought a tear to my eye as I rememeber my trips with my dad. I also laughed a bit too cause there are so many things in that story that I can relate with. I only have 2 daughters, (I say only in a loving way) and I can't wait to bring my girls along. I'll make sure they are daddies girls. Thank you for sharing your experience with your son. |
