07/23/2020 05:20PM Wind will always have a special place in my heart as it was a common destination in my college days. If you try this again next year I suggest you try to make it over to Indiana. I have not been there for longer than I care to think about but I know there used to be a really cool beaver dam/pond near the portage. I also caught the biggest largemouth of my life on Indiana right in from of the portage. |

07/09/2020 10:24PM Awesome moose encounter! Pretty impressive for the 13 year old. Typically canoes are a rough carry until about age 15 or 16 when your shoulders are wider. Love the mud story...brings back plenty of memories. Thanks for the write up. |

07/08/2020 02:25PM Yes- water levels in Wind were about 1 1/2- 2 ft. lower than normal- per the markings on the shoreline. Definitely didn't help. |

07/08/2020 01:44PM Thanks for sharing. Awesome that you got to see a moose. Its amazing how large they are. Sorry you didn’t find the portage. It probably didn’t help that the water levels were so low. I did a winter trip into Wind in January and I was going to say trip over to Basswood via that same portage, but I didn’t trust the ice because of beaver activity and lots of spots where I could see water. I’m hoping to head back there on a day trip sometime this summer. I wish you could have checked out Washte, I’ve heard it’s pretty. I’m impressed by your 13 year olds portaging skills, give him a pat on the back from all of us! Thanks again. Tony |
