That is driving across rules. I doubt PP is going to check dog food-I would have the rabies and health certificates along to be safe.

Bogs, Do you know if this rule applies even going across through PP or are you refering to driving across?

Since this thread started in 2007 things have eased up a little for dogs entering Canada.

As long as you have food in an unopened bag with the ingrediants clearly listed you should be fine. Be sure to have all the rabies certificates and health records for the dog and as long as they are current on their shots etc you should be fine.

I could never leave my dog behind. Canadians are dog racist! I don't care for pitbull but if it has a good owner like you they are good dogs. He looks like a good canoe dog.

I am beginning to wonder if it would be worth the hassle.

Be prepared to lose you dog food. I plan on buying food in Ontario in Thunder Bay as they have been known to conviscate food. If you bring food make sure it is an unopened clearly labeled original bag showing the ingrediants. I go to Thunder Bay and Winnipeg for dog shows and have friends pick me up food and not transprt any. It just makes life easier and cheaper. If you do bring food make it a small 2 pound bag or wahtever you feel the smallest bag you can live with is.

As far as the pit bull question, I guess I would call and ask what the rule is and what to expect. Be prepared to turn around at the border if they give you a hard time. Not worth losing your best friend over if they are difficult.

I have all of my paperwork for my dog and proof of vaccinations but 1 major glitch arose. I saved him from a pit bull shelter in Chicago, He is a mutt but definitely has pit in him. After doing some research I found that Ontario has a pit bull ban. It states that any dog that resembles a pit bull, American Staffordshire terrier or American bull dog can be confiscated! Am I risking loosing my dog If I try to cross the boarder with him? Does anyone living in Ontario know how strict they are with this?
I don't want to loose my best friend!!!!!

I am coming from the states across the thunder bay customs station in august and have always brought my dog with me into the bwca. Can I bring my dog across the border, are there any rules regarding K9 border crossing?
