12/09/2007 12:43AM I love the Western end and go 3-4 times per year. Every New Years, the second weekend of October and usualy a sping and summer trip. I have not been to the gunflint trail since my first winter trip 20 years ago (i was 14). thought I would go back and go into some new territory. Its always a little more fun going somewhere you have not been before. More snow would be great also! |

12/07/2007 12:58PM George, Were going up in January but not on the Gunflint though. I am curious why you picked this area instead of the western part of the park. Boneli |

12/06/2007 10:37PM This year we are going to try something new, we are taking our winter trip out of Ely and going to the Gunflint trail on New Years. We will be doing a six day trip. Ideally we would like to travel in about 8-10 miles and base camp. We would like to encounter minimal traffic and have some nice scenery, wildlife. Any recommendations on where we should go in and what lake to stay on for base camping? There will be three of us, we are all experienced winter campers, and we are all in our mid thirties and athletic. Snow shoes and skis will be brought. Thanks! PS: Any places you can recommend in town for a good breakfast and over night would be appreciated also. Thanks! |
