Sounds like a wonderful trip, Fishguts - you look real happy in all those pictures. Hope the next one is even better. BTW, I'll be in OR soon for the first time - have to see my new granddaughter.

That was a neat trip - thanks for the report. I'm jealous of your success fishing. I also gained insight into those that can't just drive a few hours and be in Ely. You guys really have to plan for much more than I do.

Tom,

I have no idea about who makes the Canvas Water Bucket we have. It was given to me as a Christmas gift a few years ago by my daughter who lives in Seattle.

Excellent trip report FG. Enjoyed the pics too. It amazes me the hoops you guys have to jump through to do a trip like this. It says a lot about the quality of a place like Quetico. But like you say - let's keep it to ourselves. :)

And nice fishing and weather to boot! Can't ask for any more than that. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.

Great report as always---but I am biased as I seem to like the same lakes as you.

timatkn,
must be something to what you say....hope those lakes stay less visited like they were on our trip....there is something wonderful about Quetico solitude, and then there's the trout.....better keep this quite :-)

I went through your report again mainly to read about the same sections that I had recently been through. The fish you guys caught are impressive, even the one you lost by the boat on Ted. It kinda sucks because of my seasonal business, I can only get away in August and Sept or early October. I would love to do a trip in the prime time fishing months of late May through June. I haven't done that since 1992.

Anyway, I also noticed that you have a pretty sweet looking water bag. Who makes that?

Pat, after reading your report, I'd say your ending quote of "It was a wonderful trip" is a gross understatement. WOW Dude! Great weather, fantastic fishing, pleasant camping, beautiful scenery and great outdoor meals. What more could one of us outdoor nuts dream of?

Great report and Fantastic photos. Lots of ammo there for the photo contests. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, how did the new Expresso work out?

Patrick, Great Stuff! (As usual.) Some photo contest quality pictures! I have to get back to Zups and into that area again soon. Wonder if the turtle on William was the same one we saw in 2009? Nice fish; Quetico must really be fished out now with all that you guys ate! Thanks for sharing. --Goose

Nice! I'm glad you had a wonderful trip. You left on my birthday, so I was hoping it would be a nice day for you (despite the knee thing). Interesting to see the picture of the tow boat loaded with canoes.

It was also nice to read about the trip that you counted down to for so long.

Just curious, what were you using to fish for Trout with when fishing from the campsite? In reference to the the pics you posted in the 5 star campsite discussion

Looks like another great trip Pat! Always happy to read about your trips. Surprised to see that old moose head is still out there.
I should have warned you about that "almost" island on Minn, I did the same thing. I had to laugh, what kind of guys pack Tuna for lunch on a fishing trip?

AndySG,

The New Bending Branches Expresso is a great paddle! It is ultra light, smooth and flexes enough to give you that extra snap at the end of your stroke..... I took good care of mine, I felt like with neglect you could damage this paddle, if you were not careful.

Great trip report! It's always better when you travel with good friends and have good weather. The fishing report sounded great. Catching several different species makes for alot of fun.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I have the same (58") paddle and love it! Not only does it give you a great stroke, but it is a wonder to steer with compared to a bent shaft. I baby mine too, even to the point of pushing off with the knob end rather than the blade. Worth every penny.

Guts/Patrick- great trip, great report. That missing portage to Suzanette starts about a hundred yards back from the end of the bay- not an easy landing to see- and then heads up the hill before turning towards the unnamed lake.

The 50 and 60 rod portages between Earl and Brent are by far the longest 50/60 portages I've taken.

Glad you had such a good trip. Beautiful fish on Earl!

Hey!Journeyman! The Tuna was a great idea, towards the end of the trip, when we were down to peanut butter & jelly & gorp.....the tuna was a treat!! It's light weight, and in the pouch has no water or oil....perfect....good hearing from you!:-)

dicecupmaker,
Thanks for asking! Lucky for me it was much better towards the end of the trip, only was bad the first 3 days after straining it....Walking level was OK....it was bad carrying a heavy pack and going down-hill.

Great report! My favorite photo is the group of the 4 of you on the dock outside Scott's on Crane Lake....we fly into a lake each year out of Crane and that's one of my favorite places in the world (because when I'm there it means I'm only an hour or so away from Smallie Time!). I always get a kick out of watching the golden retrievers fishing by the ramp! Thanks for sharing.
