Ark,

Thanks a lot for your report! You and Satch brought me out of hiding here on the board. It was great meeting you at VNO and hope we cross paths again.

Hope your foot is better. Glad it wasn't worse.

Thanks again!

Arkansas Man-

Thanks for the report. Sorry to hear about the injury, but it sounds like you pulled through ok. Hope it heals up well for your next adventure in the BWCA.

I think you must have met the same pack of squirrels that I encountered on my first trip to the BWCA. I was a novice so they got into a bit of our food. Whenever we tried to run them off they would simply take to the trees and taunt us.

Great report.

Thanks for posting your report! I have been over that same route a couple of times and your report brought back some great memories.

Your story made me think about what I would do in your situation. I probably would have ended the trip early. I agree that your positive attitude is admirable.

Glad you made it back safe!

Well worth the wait Bruce. Glad to hear you survived your ordeal. Hope your foot heals quickly and your next trip goes much better. See you up there someday. Moose River is an outstanding Entry point and always leaves us with stories to tell both good and bad.

Thanks again for sharing your report.

Dear Arkansas Man,

Very nice report! I liked the details, really got the feel of your trip.
I also liked your mention of prayer........I am working a "Spiritual Program" and that made me feel akin to you.

That was pretty quick for getting a report out. I'm still working on mine and it's been a month.

It sounds like you played it wisely as a solo camper and had a good time even though... the foot

What kind of line and what was the lb test where you useing that you broke off so much?

Bruce,
Things didn't go according to plan, and you faced some unexpected adversity, yet you still had a positive experience. I bet you'll always remember this trip! Great example of what a person can overcome with a cool head, a big dose of grit, and a dash of faith. Thanks for sharing an inspiring story.

Take care of that foot, and best wishes for a rapid recovery. You have many more portages in your future.

Just read this trip report. Very nice. Sorry about the foot problem. I admire your ability to stick it out through the whole trip. It must have been extremely tough on the portages.

I inevitably say that I will never solo again right after I finish the trip but the urge always comes back to do it again. I'm vowing to go lighter than ever next time. i'm leaving the depth finder home too.

I see you're looking at solo boats so you must be thinking about it again too.

Fishguts... All I can say about prayer is that I could not get by without it... and it works for me!

Thanks for the report. I really enjoyed it.

I'm guessing you wouldn't have traded the experience for a sound foot. Heal up quick!

Hex,
The line I was using was 8lb Berkley Trilene XT normally plenty strong... and I have never had that problem before! The line I kept getting bitten off on with the gitzit was 12 lb XT.
