O.K.... Before spouting off, I verified that Smuckers products at least are NON-perishable. That means they may be stored indefinitely at room temp, even when opened. HOWEVER, that is under ideal conditions.

The key in this instance is a -squeeze bottle-. That means you are not sticking anything into the bottle. (Sticking a knife in the bottle would possibly introduce levels of yeast or bacteria into the bottle). When you run a knife across bread, it picks up yeast. Add those yeast to jelly, or ketchup, by dipping that knife in the bottle, and you may end up fermenting it into wine.

Doesn't answer your question, but you can use dried berries, banana chips, raisins, etc instead of PB&J. It can be more interesting, and is easy enough to try out at home.

I take three bottles of it, but there is 5 of us and 3 are kids.... ONLY way to take jelly if you need a lot of it.

There are only two of us, so we don't need a lot of jelly. We take the packets that I order from Packit Gourmet. They have really high quality jelly in raspberry and strawberry.

I like taking the small packets you get at hotels and restaurants.

Ummm...ketchup wine...might sound good after a few days in the wilderness.

I've gone up to 10 days with no problem.

Jelly doesn't really "spoil" it would get mold and that can be spooned off. It should last 10 days or more.

Our jelly never makes it past about day three. Usually have enough peanut butter. Good question.

What everyone else said. We bring grape and raspberry (or sometimes strawberry). Never a problem. We don't leave it out in the direct sun all the time (nor do we do that with any of our food) but the stuff is just fine for a canoe trip.

We are taking a squeeze bottle of grape jelly this year and I've heard mixed reports on if it needs to refrigerated or not. Will it last a few days after opening (going the second week of August this year)?

Our Welch's squeeze bottle never gets refrigerated for the 4 days out. Never a problem.

We have taken squeeze bottle jelly - even the lower sugar kind - on 5 day trips in July and August with no refrigeration and no problem. We actually used up the rest at home when we got back.

It should last a few days. Try to keep the lid closed tightly as much as possible. The high sugar content should keep microbes from growing too fast. I wouldn’t save the leftovers after the trip though.

We used to take one on Scout campouts and for summer camp, usually went in first part of July. No problems with it after 4-5 days
