We've been doing breading for each trip. Batter may be a good change of pace this summer.

quote Springer2: "Take three 13.8" smallmouth bass (that's the Canadian conservation license size limit folks) , dip in Hodgson Mills "Don's Chuck Wagon" Fish & Chips batter (no preservatives, no MSG) throw a stick of Crisco in the frying pan and presto--good as it looks!
" Thanks for the good idea. I might even have to sacrifice a portion of the daily ration of an MGD for the batter. Fresh caught beer battered fried fish. Sounds good except I don't know how my buddy is going to react when he realizes he's going to have to haul in a propane deep frier and a bunch of fresh potatoes for the obligatory chips!

That brand is very tasty, but beware of how much you batter the fillets. I was used to another brand and used that one on thinner pan fish fillets. It turned out like hushpuppies with a piece of fish inside.... It was good though; I got some wows and no complaints.

I use this breading and it is really good. I have diluted the batter with beer for a very nice 'beer batter breading'. I usually thin the batter a lot in order not to have too thick of a breading on the fish.
