Greetings all! Time to plan my annual solo trip in mid Sep. I'm looking for some new territory that will yield better seclusion than Horse and Tin Can Mike last year coupled with good fishing. I see Big Moose as a possibility, but with limited sites and long portages to other lakes, I'm wondering if this area is frequented much forcing an unwelcome move.

I know the permits are now limited, but is that an indication of popularity?

I've also considered returning to LISN/Lower Pauness or Nina Moose up to Rocky Lake.

As always, thanks for the input.

Jeff

Been there many times, and never have I not found a campsite.i will warn you that wind can be an issue on this lake.

Each time I've been to Big Moose it has been quiet - not much traffic etc. Including twice in September, once on this trip. Of course, there are never any guarantees but, I'd consider Big Moose being on the quiet side a pretty safe bet - especially in September - definitely when juxtaposed against LIS north.

I have been into Big Moose three times and never had an issue getting a site. We stayed in the two northern most sites both of which are nice sites. There is also a mid lake reef that can be great fishing for both bass and Walleye. If you want the location of the reef, I can dig out the coordinates.

I would not hesitate going in on this entry point. It's a really big lake, so watch the weather ahead of time and if there is wind, you may need to spend time in camp.

I'd love to know where that reef is! I don't use a gps in the woods, but I could always plot it on my map ahead of time. If you provide a detailed description of its location I can spend my time looking for it!

Thanks in advance!
