Just cut into a new roll about 1/3rd of an inch and peel off the strip, Foot+ long individual stacked/strips that can be stuck anywhere inside the canoe.

Does anybody think that re-taping duct tape onto something else (bottle or whatever) will diminish the adhesive quality of the tape?

Unbelievably the tape kept the fry pan handle and transducer puck tightly against the side of my canoe for 7 days ... Under water no less. Duct tape would have fallen off after 30 minutes. My depth finder worked perfectly thanks to Gorilla Tape.

Do you use the black, white, or clear Gorilla tape? Is there any difference?

Maybe slightly, but that another reason to buy the high quality tape not the cheap stuff.

I have only used BLACK Gorilla tape. I would think that all colors perform similarly.
A bud uses CAMOUFLAGE Gorilla tape for duck blinds and says it works great.

Look around you can find small rolls of gorilla tape or duc tape. It doesn't pay to cut some off a existing roll. You want full stickiness.
If I can't find a small roll,still would take a bigger roll of tape not exposed to air.

About 10 ft of camo Gorilla tape around a rubbermaid container I use for my pills/toiletries - stuff that must stay dry.
I think it was 2011 that we punctured our Wenona Champlain on day 2 of a 7 day trip. I was amazed at how well a duct tape patch held for the duration of the trip. It has so many uses.

The guys I met at the Polly end of the portage from Townline while on my solo last month were sure glad that I had some in my pack because they had put a hole in their aluminum canoe when they dropped it on a rock.

Also - I bring Gaffer's tape, rather than duct tape - the difference is Gaffer's tape doesn't leave residue. I have it in all my travel gear.

- Temporary hanging on wall? Tape!
- Ripped your pants? Tape (it's generally black)

Hotel curtains - yep BTDT. Pants also. Gonna try credit card approach... but so far, I bring a small camper's roll made without the center cardboard. Bought at REI years ago and still haven't run out of it. The whole thing is about the size of an old fashioned film canister. For younger paddlers, that means about 1" diameter.

Have a friend who also packs one of those little teeny tiny "creme brulee" chef torches to "melt" the stickum on the duct tape when temperature is too cold to adhere to the side of the canoe crack......
Saved his bacon in the far north more than once. So he says...

When I get to last 1/2" of roll, I save it for canoe trips. Squeeze it flat to save space.

I wrap duct tape around this bottle and then slip the middle "rubber" grip to hole it in place and sort of protect the tap.

I wrap a total of 4 to 6 feet of duct tape around two pill bottles in which I carry spare batteries.

I carry mine in my 1st Aid kit so it will always be dry. Also, I use a 1/2 used roll and "Flatten" it to take up less space. BTW, I use this "Improved" version of Duct Tape, Gorilla Tape:

Canoeing, I just bring the roll of duct tap from my workbench. I am not worried about the weight at all. Backpacking, I bring tenacious tape.

How do you pack yours? Do you bring a new roll (seems excessive), but a short roll at REI (seems like a rip off) or do you have success re-rolling it into your own smaller rolls?

I strip off six feet or so, then roll/fold it flat into about 3" folds.

I will take some thin cardboard, wrap it around a pencil, then roll myself a small roll of duct tape, maybe 1 - 1 1/2" in diameter. That gives me a few yards of duct tape.
