Hi, I own a Sawyer X-17 that was built in Ca. in 1988. This is looking like an X-17 to me. The hull is 36" wide / 37 1/2" at the gunwale but 32" at the 4" waterline. depth is 14" . Rounded, asym. hull with moderate flare. The length is 17'-1" all together. Mine is great for two and paddles well with a load. Actually more stable with equip. and I believe that the cargo cap was ~ 860 Lbs. I don't see Superior Canoes advertising the David Yost X-17 design but their Cruiser is 17'9" long and 32" wide.

Hello, New to the boards but have been checking them out for some time. i was wondering if anyone knows anything about my canoe.
I bought this earlier this summer. it is a Sawyer canoe but has no marking on it. it is 17' long by 36" wide. I bought it from the original owner and he bought it new in '91. It is a GoldenGlass Layup as well and weight approximately 65 pounds.
anyways, I've searched a lot for what this model would be and cannot find anything! Anyone know anything about this model?
This is a photo from when I bought it.
Thanks!

I second the x-17. The cruiser was longer and narrower (I think 17'9" x35) . The x-17 was billed as Sawyer's "family" canoe. Stable and capable but not as fast as the cruisers. The golden glass layup without foam core is strong and flexible enough to use for whitewater, though heavy. Well built boats, my Sawyer (a 222 ) is still going strong after 32 years.

I thought Expeditions were decked canoes?? Good luck with old Sawyer stuff....the company was carved up and sold a couple times. Some of the old stuff exists as Superior Canoes. May want to drop them a line and give the specs. They may have a better hint than others. Only model that comes to my mind is a Cruiser....which came in different lengths I believe, but this one seems a little wide for a Cruiser, and looks a little too tall. Being a 91 model says it was made before the break up and sale and the info on those models is hard to find. Somebody will know....

I thought the x-17's were narrower. maybe not? I think I'll get the Hull Number and send it to Superior Canoes to see if they know anything. I love the canoe and am really happy with it. Super stable and moves through the water well. Great fishing platform. Huge upgrade from my old Forester canoe.

Sounds like an Expedition 17 or X17. Check out paddling.net under reviews. CB

Right you are hummmoss!
The Oscofa Family 17 specs on the left, (from Sawyer's 1984 Catalog), and the Sawyer X-17 on the right, (from Sawyer's 1985 Catalog)
